The Great Hunt: Ryanair tips and tricks

  • On one occasion I had a return trip from Liverpool to Barcelona, out on the Friday and returning on the Monday (total cost £47 return). I needed to change my return flight to the Sunday, but the cost to amend details was more than £40. I looked at available flights one way and was able to book a new flight for just £27.99 - Ryanair lost a seat and any potential revenue from that seat which they could have re-sold!

If you think Ryanair are bad only allowing check in a week b4 if you don't buy a seat, Ive booked BCN to EDI with Vueling. Can only check in 3 days B4 to print boarding cards unless you buy a seat.

The difference being that you can check in and get a boarding pass without charge at the airport with Vueling if you don't do it online.

Still, I don't have an issue with Ryanair's check-in policies, it is reasonably easy to avoid having to pay for an allocated seat if you don't want to, many people have smartphones now and can use the app. Must admit I always pay for an allocated seat, even if that's not very MSE.

Only a fairly small proportion of my flights are with Ryanair, but I have no problem flying with them.

Just to clarify, i download the app and i can book the return flights and check-in online with the app on my phone.
Whilst away inside the 7 day period i pick up wifi somewhere and check-in with the app for return journey and it puts my boarding pass somewhere on the phone which i show at check-in,
Is it like a saved document?

Correct. On an iPhone you can add the mobile BP to Passbook, I'm not familiar with the Android version so not sure if it is stored within the app or separately on their phones.

You need to be an EU/EEA country national to use mobile BP with Ryanair, and there are a few airports that don't accept it (about 10, of which around half are in Morocco). In most places it is available, I've used it a few times without any problem. More info here:
