where to buy PC

Options
Hi all,
Where would you recommend to buy a basic PC setup?
The obvious high street store is PC world. However I'm always less than impressed with the staff in these places.
Cheers!

PCW should be the very last place....you opinion of the staff training is correct.
Always good for browsing first though.

If you want cheap: Lenovo H30-00(90C20005UK) £139.99

or ASUS CM1735-UK002S with ASUS 18.5" monitor £169.99

    Fits the criteria of basic.

Can't open those links right now as I'm at work and ebay is blocked. By basic I mean it won't be used for gaming or streaming or anything like that. Primarily to use MS office and to store/edit/organise photos. Not looking to spend a lot, but I don't want to be buying another in a few years time so happy to spend more if the cheapest ones are not going to be up to it.

depending on how much you want to go into things

    dino pc
    cyberpower systems
    pc specialist

all allow a reasonable amount of extra configuration for not too much more money, but usually can not meet the mass produced systems on super low price/refurbs

the bonuses of course become a more user specific system in which you have chosen which compromises to make, as mass produced systems do usually skimp on some important things such as power supply, and you would pretty much never find a SSD on a cheap system, because big numbers sell - even though most people do not need a 1 or 2 tb hard drive, and could probably easily get away from a 250gb hard drive or less
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

The sales staff, impressive or not, have no effect on the quality of the machines, or the reliability of the operating system. If the price is right, there is nothing wrong with buying from these much maligned retail outlets, your experience is likely to be far less troublesome than wandering off to some outfit who cobble together their own systems.

Just avoid buying extras like antivirus, warranties, and installation or support packages.

The cheapest will be upto it, what have you got now?

They may be outside your price range, but if you can buy from John Lewis you're unlikely to regret it.

I'd try a shop, one often finds goods for sale there.
