Thursday 10th September - what small DFW things will you do today?

Posts: 4,106 Forumite

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending!
So be proud of those small steps, they really important!:money:

Morning Ziggy
Hope you're feeling better - I feel a bit less frazzled than I did yesterday but I am still shattered...
Not much planned for today other than to survive work... lol. If I make a list then I will make more effort to stick with it.Check banking and PAD
Plan next week's lessons
Try and mark a set of books
Stay calm
Aim for NSD
Try and get DH to do some housework as he's off work this week
Praying for a dry day as my washing is out
Think that might be it for now.Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control

- Chasing up Barclaycard. They set a 4 week deadline to deal with my PPI claim, missed it, gave themselves another 4 weeks and missed that too. I think it's valid and it's worth probably at least 15% of my total debt.
- got the bus instead of the tube0 -
Morning
thanks for starting the thread ziggy!
La E :hello: lovely to see you backOMG what a living nightmare :eek: hope everything goes through quickly from here on in!
Lovely bright & warm day here and oh & dgd have just gone off. Will make the most of my day off by making sure the afternoon is for leisure :beer:
Small things for today:
* check banking
* [STRIKE]sent invoice to 2 ebayers[/STRIKE]
* post 2 ebay items
* photo and list a few things & relist some others that haven't sold. I am finding in the end everything gets sold although sometimes you need to relist a few times :T
* write a letter to sentinal re ins policy. I had it 2002-2004 so not automatically entitled to the money back under the Gov scheme
* write letter of complaint to First Utility using resolver tool
* keep fingers crossed
*[STRIKE] see if I can get refund on airport parking...[/STRIKE]amazingly they refunded it & booked me a space at Gatwick for the same price :T
* start wine batch :beer:
* go and pick some elderberries & freeze
*[STRIKE] go and drop off a sale from facebay - £20 :T[/STRIKE]
* job search
* onepoll
* all meals from stores
* bake cakes
* call FU to reset up dd. Honestly this company! I shifted my dd to the 5th from the 17th to buy us 2 weeks. Oh gets paid at the end of the month and the joint account was tight last month. Explained it to the person and agreed later in the year when I have a job I would pay the 2 weeks ish outstanding. Simple, yeah? They still took the payment on the 17th and then I got an email saying the next payment would be on the 5th :eek: so rather than getting 2 weeks grace they had set it up so we had to pay 2 monthly installments in one pay cycle :eek::eek::mad:
Ok that's my lot! Have a great day xDF as at 30/12/16

Barclaycard have paid me! It's only £500 but the DFW thing I'll be doing is shoving that money straight into my savings to pay off the cards with and not buying myself yet another treat.0

Have been officially homeless for 5 weeks now waiting for our house purchase to go through, which has been quite tough.
Oh my goodness La E. So sorry to hear that. If we'd known we'd have offered you our spare room....mind you it would've been a heck of a daily commute to work for you.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -
Morning all
Didn't get to post yesterday, as I had a long trip to a family funeral and didn't get back till late. Did read though!!
Ziggy, hope you are ok now? Thanks for starting the thread
CCL - hope you have a less stressful day. I was a teacher in a previous life, but don't think I could do it now
La E - Hope all is sorted soon :eek:
DNMS - Hoping for good news on the job front!
Hello to everyone else :hello:
List for today:
Check banks Oops in a minute
Strip one of the spare beds yet again and wash linen Done
Peg on line to dry (hopefully, depending on the weather!) Done
Clean and tidy spare bedroom, get out second spare bed and make up both beds ready for small grand daughters visiting this weekend (two single beds one of which stores underneath the other, if that makes sense) Still need to make up the beds
Pop along to sales unit and see if anything needs doing all ok, but very little sold
Puppy training - grooming today as he looks so scruffy :rotfl:
Harvest any produce in the garden - might also start to strip remaining tomatoes off the plants, which look decidedly the worse for wear Picked a couple of cucumbers (rest assured there are lots more :eek:), a courgette and a load of tomatoes
Meals from stores Done, and a NSD :T
Think of something to do with loads of cucumbers :eek: Thanks for all the suggestions
Any surveys that are available Done a few for Onepoll, close to pay out now :T Some of them ARE daft though :rotfl:

Hope everyone has a good day0 -
Morning all!
Bob - sorry to hear about Mr Bob's bike.
DNMS - hope you hear today.
Well the mash turned out fine! I thought about it and normally I make a shepards pie and freeze it - i.e. freeze the mash, and its always fine. It was just this time I froze the mash on its own.
Circuits was hard last night so today I feel like I've been run over! So circuits tonight will be fun!
Actually managed a NSD yesterday!
Today I have/will:-
* Check banks
* Check phone bill as been charged about £13 more than my standard tariff!
* Do washing up (I'm more water friendly than OH who keeps running the tap!)
* Take lunch to work
* Check FPL
* Update work expenses
* Earn more on OnePoll
* Get car insurance quotes
* Go to circuits
* Dinner from stores
* Wash hair and let dry naturally
Think that's everything for today. Hope you all have a good day.Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £5,555.00
Total paid off - £10,045.89 (64% paid off)0 -
