I've used it a couple of times in the past and been pleased with the results. Just specify the kind of work you want doing (can be any job small or big), and tradespeople will quote on the job; website also gives guide prices as to what the quotes should be. Tradespeople are also rated by their previous customers on the website (bit like fleabay) so you can instantly see if they're getting good feedback or not.

I didn't realise that the tradesmen pay Rated People for the referral. When I was looking for a boiler installer one of them got very pushy and told me he'd had to pay to get my number. I let him come round to give me a quote but wasn't impressed by him and he wasn't any cheaper than other quotes I'd had. Reviews were mixed. I went with someone recommended by a friend instead.0 -

Good morning all, a bit cloudy out there today.fairclaire wrote: »That's no bad thing in my experience AJ. Maybe we should start a group for people who aren't members of a FB group?

I dare you to tell DS2 that you plan to start an FB group for people who aren't members of a group. I suspect his head might explode :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
As for the tradespeople conversation, we can look at it from the other side. We have looked into things like rated people and checkatrade, and, as far as we can tell, they are simply expensive advertising vehicles , and you can get bad reviews removed. We would never use anyone out of either of these without seeing their work or having a recommendation too.
We get at least 75% of our work on word of mouth or customers that simply won't use anyone else, both commercial and private. We do a very good job, we clean up after ourselves, and we are very good at hiding cablesThe rest is just out of Yellow Pages or Yell.com. what is quite funny (to us not the customers) is the amount of time we spend going around fixing BT's errors,, and one time we were at a customer's at the same time as a BT engineer and he was trying to connect up and I had to show him how to do it
