In my 'industry' I've personally known of 3 suicides in the past 8 years. You may be letting off steam, but I see your references as scaremongering !
Up roar perhaps because doctors/consultants are being asked to work weekends. It's about time the NHS became a 7 day week health service instead of a Mon-Fri one to suit time on the golf course. Modern life is 24/7 365 days a year, god forbid other professional bodies deciding they didn't want to work weekends. The country would grind to a halt.
Why should patients be at a greater risk of death at weekends or immediately thereafter. Why is primary care severly reduced at weekends.
The NHS generally provide outstanding care in the UK and is possibly one of the best health facilities in the world, but why should it rest on it's laurels. The changes may not be perfect, they may not suit all, some of them may not work as proposed, but the NHS needs change and modernisation and it's about time something was done.
Ah I see the media have truly got you fooled - what a misinformed post.
The only scaremongering is being done by Jerry Blunt.
Currently, the NHS is struggling to provide a 5-day service. So how on earth can it provide a 7-day service with the same number of doctors, nurses, physios, pharmacists, secretaries, x-ray machines, ct-scanners, MRI scanners, wards, hospital beds etc.? It can't.
As for suicide rates, doctors have the highest rate in the world within any profession. Can't argue with that.
As for going to the 'golf course' - :rotfl: What a troll-esque response.
So let's say you suffer with chest pain on a Sat/Sun night, do we turn you away from the A&E door? 'Sorry mate, all doctors are playing golf - just ask Wheres My Cashback'.
You'll be seen by a nurse, a doctor, have blood tests undertaking and results within the hour, an x-ray/scan if needed, drip put in, IV fluids given, antibiotics etc. and be admitted or discharged.
What a fantastic service; on a weekend, day or night.:grouphug:Official MSE canny forumite and HUKD VIP badge member

so how much does a doctor earn before the 15% cut on a 5 day week. (how many hrs is that)(is the cut on the hrly rate or on the hours claimed and not worked)
not to mention the super duper pension.
more info is needed to be told to the public on exactly what doctors are being paid for, before i can make judgement0 -

Currently, after tax, NI, student loan repayment a junior doctor earns between £1700 - £2300 for anywhere between 250-300 hours work.
Take into account a 15-30% pay cut and more hours then you can see what the end result is.:grouphug:Official MSE canny forumite and HUKD VIP badge member

but they knew the loan had to be paid back before they took the courses. or do you think the tax payer should pay it.0
