Uninformed of 6 hour stopover

I booked a holiday in Istanbul. The flight out was direct from Gatwick. The return flight took me to another part of Turkey. There I had to wait for 6 hours for a separate flight to London.
My itinerary did not show me-and I was not told-that I would be going to London via another airport. The departure from Istanbul and the arrival time in London were shown correctly and I did not notice the undue length when I booked. I suppose I put it down to the time zone differences.
As the travel agent did not correctly inform me that I would be taking two flights to get back to Gatwick have I legitimate complaint and, if so, whom would I take it up with?

You have posted on the flight delay board but you say the departure and arrival times were correct so I assume the flight was not delayed
Did you book online direct with the airline?
what was the airline and routing?

There is a difference between non-stop and direct flights.

Direct flights have a single flight number from A to B but may have one or more stops along the way
Non-stop flights have a single flight number from A to B and do not stop

Were you told it was a non-stop flight, or did you just assume it was?

I couldn't see a more appropriate place to post the message, is there one? The flight arrived at Gatwick on time.
"Did you book online direct with the airline?" No

By that definition my flight was neither non-stop nor direct. I was not told that it was a non-stop flight. Both legs of the journey had separate flight numbers. My travel company gave me only one flight number, which applied to the first leg of the journey and not, as their information showed, the entire return to Gatwick. They definitely misinformed me on that point.

what are you hoping to achieve?
compensation for delay does not apply as your departure and arrival times were as you had advised. You were not given false information but instead you say that some information was missing
Do you have any out of pocket expenses that you are expecting them to reimburse or are you just looking for an apology for not making the flight details clearer to you?
  • I am trying to establish whether there is a failure on the part of the company-a breach of contract, or some similar legal malfeasance.
Obviously I don't expect compensation for delay but I do imagine there is scope for compensation/reimbursement.

I do not imagine that there is any scope for compensation of any kind. You said earlier that:
The departure from Istanbul and the arrival time in London were shown correctly and I did not notice the undue length when I booked.

So what exactly would you be claiming for? You were told and accepted your flight times when you booked, presumably. That your 'plane stopped off en route is immaterial.

You have no loss, therefore no claim.

How could you possibly not notice this - Turkey's only 2 hours ahead of the UK!

I agree..it was ridiculous of me. Nonetheless I should have been told. Or don't you agree?

Ah, but isn't failure to disclose a form of mis-selling? If I am mis-sold I certainly have a claim.
