Anyone had dealings with Direct Mobiles UK?

I found a fab deal on the Samsung Note 4 on Direct Mobiles UK, and online reviews put the company as ok to deal with. So I applied for the phone yesterday.
They have just rung me now, saying that EE won’t process the order until I have sent a copy of my driving licence and top part of my bank statement, as proof of my identify. Obviously alarm bells rang as it seems like they are trying to take my identity, but I did get from the caller that they would be happy with the driving licence with my licence number erased, i.e. just the photo, my name and address showing, plus the same with my bank statement.
I am doubting now whether I should send these details, as the request still seems a bit odd.
