Ever since my incident (as posted above), I've refused to use them. They were incredibly incompetent. They took £70 from my partner, which took two or three phone calls to get back and that was despite the fact they did absolutely no work.
Imagine if they'd actually done a repair. This was my initial wrangling. They want you to pay for a windscreen replacement, regardless of if you have one. They then decide on the day whether to a repair. So much incompetence.0 -
A few years ago I broke a rear screen in a big city on a Saturday morning. I phoned Autoglass in case they could replace it immediately. He asked my reg number. I told him and he told me who my insurer was and said they had a contract with them and they could replace it immediately. A few minutes later he phoned back and said they didn't have one but they would come and make it safe and then replace it on Monday. While I was waiting I was getting a bit concerned and vowed not to sign anything without fully reading it. A man arrived cleaned up the mess and fixed some polythene to the car. He thought about giving me some documents but thought better of it and drove off. When we got home and read our insurance documents it said specifically that we were not allowed to use Autoglass for any repairs and would not be reimbursed if we did. We took it to their approved repairer and had it fixed. We never received any bills or any further communication from Autoglass. I was upset that they lied to us about having a contract with our insurer but in the end they cleared our mess up for free!0

why did your insurer not deal with autoglass specifically?0 -
I don't know. They had a deal with another company. I did wonder if they would have paid up if Autoglass had done the job, but I didn't like the way that they lied to me about having an arrangement with my insurance company that they didn't actually have.0

All rear windows have heat element on and with fitting you just have to connect the cable and you're done, Brake light is on the tailgate itself and shows through the glass, why the heck they would charge more for the break light I don't know.
They dont go by parts & labour cost, they ask these question just to make it appear like there's more work with the window heating and break light to pad up the cost.
In the end I got it fitted by a local indie by £130. The ususal price is £150 but I drove to the fitter to one of his clients places and he slashed the cost by £20 as it saved him a lot of time in driving through London traffic.
Steady on. There are different windows for different spec. If the car has a brakelight the glass will be different to one which does not (modified silkprint to mark out the brakelight). And it doesn't always mean higher price; sometimes they can be cheaper and it's all down to year breaks and how many of that particular model were sold in this country.
Before anyone makes an assumption from my forum name, no, I am not an Autoglass employee.0 -

Scornful one is scornful much.
A bit strong to wish they go bust. Autoglass employ a lot of people; that's a lot of pain you're wishing onto those individuals.0 -

Maybe they should all do their jobs better then. They certainly seem to have a problem throughout the company, given the high level of complaints I have noted in just the past week while I have been dealing with their useless employees.
Perhaps they should provide decent customer service and not lie, deceive and be utterly incompetent - companies like that should simply not be in business. No reason why the public should be abused by crooked and/or incompetent individuals just because they have a "deal" with insurers - they behave as badly as they do as they feel they are untouchable and there will be no comebacks.0 -

Autoglass is the industry leader, without question. When there are changes in the industry, Autoglass are the ones that everyone else follows. Over some 50 years in the UK, it has become a household name and employs a lot of people; well over a thousand in the UK and many more globally. You dealt with a couple, or several people and you say you were not impressed. As much as they are the company in a customer's eyes, you can't form an opinion on the rest of the company from that. You don't have to like them in the same way you don't have to like the whole of Asda or Tesco on the basis that the person on the checkout did not serve you well.
There are good people working for Autoglass (not discounting that there may be some iffy ones) but to wish that the company goes bust making them all jobless is the kind of hate that usually comes from someone who will benefit from such a demise.0 -
Had a windscreen replaced by Autoglass earlier in the year through an insurance claim, never had any problems.
My insurance only deals with them, I'm sure the number I had to call was straight through to Autoglass.0
