Good that you managed to book it for a quick appointment - less time to panic and less chance to bottle it.
I'm very impressed that you've overcome your fears given that I spent 5 years avoiding my last one, so I know just how you feel. It'll soon be over then you can forget it for another few years - 3 is it now?

Thanks, shall make sure I take some painkillers before hand (im lucky in that my doctors is literally across the road so I can hobble back home quite quickly !)

I'm trying to be rational and tell myself either it's going to be fine and I won't have to have another for 3 years, or if they find sonething hopefully it's found early enough and treated.

Ive put this off for 5 years....I can't put it off any longer. :o

Very well done, MU. When I went to the doc's about the bleeding, I was so glad that I had had a recent smear test as it meant they already knew that the cervix was clear.

I also had to have a probe 'down there' for my recent scan, and that was a bit embarrassing but again so much less upsetting because I'd had a smear and coil fittings recently and the staff had been so professional.

Definitely gets easier the more you view it as a normal, necessary medical screening procedure.

I hadn't had a smear test for around 15 years or more, before my recent one. So I worried that not only would I have cancer but it would be horribly advanced. It was a huge surprise that it came back clear. Try not to worry.

Well done for booking it HBS! I'm sure it'll be fine. My surgery chased me up last month and made me book it as I'd ignored/forgotten to book mine, it was fine. :) Tell yourself that you can go get it done then go to a cafe and have a coffee, a giant cookie and an hour reading a magazine as a treat for being so brave! :)

    MU,

I had my 1st at 43 last year. Just tell the nurse and I am sure she will be kind and patient with you.

    Massive hugs

    Yours

I've messaged my best friend and asked her if she wants to meet up tomorrow evening, figured a)it would take my mind off things if i have something to look forward to and b)she had her first one recently and she had abnormal cells so she's been though it and was the one who has been encouraging me to go.

Also getting my contraceptive injection tomorrow, theyve asked me everytime for the past year about getting a smear test and i kept avoiding it, will be quite happy to say that ive finally booked one :o

Seeing as i'm in the midset of tackling big scary things, i think the next thing shall be going to the supermarket with a tenner and setting myself the challenge of getting a few meals out of it. I'm currently thinking ingredients for chilli con carne as i know i'll be able to freeze and reheat. Or maybe cottage pie.

I'm in holiday from work till saturday :p and back at mine till thursday so i need to occupy myself! This would probably be a good time to exercise too. I might go swimming tonight :)
