To add to calley's suggestion, you can also post on the benefits and disability and dosh forums on here and get some good advice from people on here.

I have to admit that when my husband first became disabled I filled all the forms out with help from the forums here. And I did really well as as no rejection.

I think due to that he lost out on some benefits. He could hardly do anything when he came out of hospital and he got lower rate care. I personally think it should have been middle rate. But that was my fault. And we where glad of any help as he had no income for nearly 4 months.

I also recommend asking on the forums, dragonette. Don't worry too much, when I applied for DLA my GP told me that they would reject me initially and then accept me on reconsideration. She was absolutely correct. The reconsideration phone call was quite different to the forms, they asked far more direct questions that I found far easier to answer. After that they gave me low mobility and medium care so don't feel too bad about not being accepted straight away.

I do think you are brave because my social worker has been telling me for years that I need to be on high rate care, because I need someone with me at night, too. It would be really useful because I could use the money to book my carer a bit more often but I am too scared to apply in case they take it all away! Well done for applying!

I am so lucky. But it might be that I am bit of a fuss pot so don't eat things such as mushrooms, avocados.

Good job you are not near me today than WaS as I am using latex gloves while I am glossing to save me trying to getting it off my hands later.

I wonder what the link between latex and avocados is?

Edit......found this. Interesting. Apparently, some of the allergenic proteins in latex are also found in other fruits.

    "Latex-fruit syndrome
Some people who have latex allergy may also have an allergic response to any of a number of plant products, usually fruits. This is known as the latex-fruit syndrome.[11] Fruits (and seeds) involved in this syndrome include banana, pineapple, avocado, chestnut, kiwi fruit, mango, passionfruit, fig, strawberry and soy. Some but not all of these fruits contain a form of latex. Hevein-like protein domains[12] are a possible cause for allergen cross-reactivity between latex and banana[13] or fruits in general (latex-fruit syndrome).[14]"

I had never tried an avocado in my life before the last bout of sickness, Calley. I won't be again! It's scary because one can never know what allergies might be lurking in untried foods.

That's fascinating, Pyxis! I did think it was a bit odd when my doctor said we need to test you for latex sensitivity but that explains it! It's interesting that soy is on there because I shouldn't have that either. It isn't as bad but sends me running to the toilet for the next day! I do love chinese food though so put up with it!

Hahahaha! Now I am imagining avocado's in naughty outfits.

Hmmm! I can see there might be a connection between latex and guacamole, or mashed banana, or strawberry puree! :rotfl::rotfl:

    Camping! Eeeeek!

What sort of concerts make their musicians camp?

Edit Another thought.......do you ever do historical reconstructions with ancient instruments?

Can't answer the first bit as it would compromise someone else's anonymity. In answer to the second - after this weekend's big opera I need to focus, as playing baroque again soon!

  • *grins* loving the latex and fruit connections! Dressing up fruit isnt usually what happens to my latex!

I'll decide tomorrow if I want to appeal or not. Im in the support group for ESA, but it is notoriously difficult to get PIP for ME/CFS. I was expecting to be turned down to start with though
