  • Big hugs Georgie. Can sympathise at the moment :(

The Govt website has a statutory calculator on there somewhere for redundancy pay, if that's any help?

Thank you for the positivity guys - it has really helped. The doc thinks I have tonsillitis so that could explain rubbishy feeling.

Will think of some positive things in a bit!

. Which I realise is probably of no comfort to you now but whichever way it goes for OH, it can all work out in the end.

It is a comfort thank you. That's what I need right now, positive thinking, because my positivity is edging towards zero at the moment. I know we'll be ok for quite a while as he'll get a really good redundancy package, and we'd adapt and adjust as we need to, but it's still a really scary unsure time, and like you say, full of "what ifs?" He's been with that company for over 20 years, and it's like having to start all over again for him.

Also, and this is quite selfish of me but I'm worried he'll go in a low way, and in turn, that will send me into a low way. :( I know I'm not coming across as very positive right now, but I am in front of him, and I am in general (although these days it's becoming harder and harder to be so) whereas he always looks on the negative side of everything and tends to suck the joy out of things. I'm worried that if he doesn't get another job fairly fast that he'll just give up, and in turn that will affect our relationship even more. :(

Anymore news on your work HBS? Boo about the tonsillitis :(

    Weigh in Wednesday:

Here are the results of the Scottish jury - 1lb down*

    Positive things for this week:
    1. Back at work (eugh) at least means back in a routine with walking 10,000 steps and drinking loads of water.
    2. I have been really good with cooking meals instead of crisps for dinner and takeaways.
    3. With the exception of today (explanation below), my jeans have felt a little looser and someone complimented me on my weight loss yesterday.

    Positive things for next week:
    1. I will continue on my cooking quest.
    2. I will try to take vitamins everyday.
    3. I will try to meditate more.

    * I am very constipated so no idea if that's accurate.

    Weigh in Wednesday:

Well done on staying the same/losses. I'd like to add to that but I've put on 1lb this week. I have no real motivation at the moment though as, having had an upset stomach since just before New Year, I'm very much of the opinion that if whatever I eat is going to cause me hideous cramps then I'm at least going to have enjoyed my dinner.

    Positive things for this week:
    1. I've been much better at not snacking
    2. My boyfriend bought me flowers to cheer me up
    3. I had a really lovely lazy, pampering bath

Positive things for the week ahead:
    1. I'll cut down my alcohol intake (after last weekend's efforts that should be pretty easy...)
    2. I'll make a start on my mountain of ironing
    3. I'll finally get round to using the manicure set I got for Christmas

I was with the company 25 years, Georgie. I had 3 months from notice to leaving. I don't do change and am perfectly happy in my comfort zone. But I had to put a positive spin on it for the sake of my team, and the residents who were having to move.
What that made me realise was that once I'd lost my job security, my increased holiday and all the perks of long service, they'd held me back from making changes sooner. I'd got stale but hung on. I wasn't ever going to get that long service back again, but that was a good thing. It meant there was nothing to keep me in any future jobs if they weren't right. I'd got nothing to lose so if something didn't work I'd move on and try something else.
That's a very liberating feeling. It also prodded me into other changes, exercise, personal makeover, learning new skills.
This obviously all took time from when I found out what was happening. But in retrospect the redundancy was a good thing overall, even though it didn't feel like it at the time.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

    We're talking again, so that's a start.

    Firstly, (((((((((((((Georgie)))))))))))))

Secondly, this could really pull you two together. "The two of us against the world". What's important is that you don't both withdraw into your own shells and stop talking.

    And keep hugging! :A

Raining through the ceiling can never be a good thing!!

Is there anyone in upstairs to turn their water off?

Good luck and I hope it's all sorted soon.

Oh no WaS, hope you get in there and get the water turned off v quickly! If there's no one around, you're ok to take matters into your own hands as it's an emergency. Big hugs to you and WaSP.

I've been made redundant three times (from different parts of the same company, have now taken the hint and properly moved on :D) Two of those definitely worked out for the best, and the other time wasn't awful just a bit of a faff. T (the friend I mentioned the other day) was made redundant last year about 25+yrs with the same company (think he joined them straight from uni and he's now 50). The thought of it knocked him for six (especially with two kids at uni at the time) but he's in a great job now with a much better company and he loves it.

Best of luck to everyone facing scary imposed changes right now - not nice when you're going through it. Always somewhere to hide in the fort if it gets too much xx.
