Gitdog would like to assure you he had a lovely time, despite raging indigestion this morning. He had a stocking which he got his head stuck in, in his enthusiasm. He learned that it's quicker to eat wrapping paper than to take it off first. The near miss with the turkey wasn't his fault - nan should have known that he is really a giraffe in disguise. Nan cooked him extra sprouts and Christmas pudding and very kindly fed him from the table - he doesn't know why this led to a family argument, and quite frankly doesn't care - and he was allowed onto a lap at nan's house for the first time ever.
Nan reckons she only tolerates his presence - oddly enough we no longer believe her . I think he ended up with more presents than I did.:rotfl:All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Merry Christmas everybody!
We had our first Christmas in our new bungalow yesterday. We spent it with our son and his partner, partner's mum, my birth mum, and at the last minute an elderly lady we know who we discovered would otherwise be on her own.
The day had to be planned with military precision. We cooked the meat (beef and turkey) on Christmas Eve. Then on the Day we had to drive 40 miles up the M6 to get my mother, then over to the other side of our city to get our son's partner's mother. The other elderly lady drove herself here, and our son and his partner walked.
Then I entertained them whilst my husband cooked the veg, then I helped him with getting the table set and the food into serving dishes.
Our table will only seat six, so our son offered to eat his dinner in the conservatory (which opens from the kitchen diner, so we could still speak to him!). We told him there was a table and chair in the shed, but he chose not to take us up on that.
My husband and son then served, they made a good pair of waiters!
After lunch we all opened presents (including the lady who was invited at the last minute, we had managed to get her something) and then at about 4.30 everybody started making tracks for home, so it was the other side of the city and then the M6 again for us. The elderly lady who had driven herself gave our son and his partner a lift home as they all live near each other.
My husband and I then collapsed and fell asleep!!
Still, a lovely day and one we hope to repeat.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Just read these somewhere. Torn between which one I prefer as a new motto:
1. I don't need anger management, I just need people to stop !!!!inng me off
2. My people skills are fine. It's my tolerance of idiots that needs more work.
Possibly not quite in the spirit of Christmas, but never mind.:)
That was kind of you, SDW, to invite the elderly lady. Glad you all had a good time. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Hello all! How lovely to hear about your days, I am so, so pleased you had a good time. Gitdog looks very happy and your bracelet is beautiful, Melly! With much listing and WaSp observing and doing the oven and cutting bits I managed to cook a huge Christmas dinner, WaSp said it was the best one he has ever had, including those cooked by Milliefleur! High praise indeed! I am still not hungry, I may never be hungry again.
I bought WaSp a Lego Technic toy and he spent the whole day putting it together so that was a success! He is now going to take it apart and make the other toy that the pieces can make. Inbetween times he is still trying to take apart a metal puzzled that he also received, it's been two days trying to do it now so he is keeping himself amused! I have been making balloon animals from one of my presents!Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

We went for a ride in the country, took a wrong turn and found ourselves in what we thought was a little shopping centre.
It turned out to be Hilton Maine Services on the M6 and we had come in the back way, it was one-way only so we had to go out onto the M6 - the wrong way to where we live - and take the next junction off, go round the island and come back!
A wonderful ride in the country that was.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Sounds like the kind of thing I would do SDW! Infact I have gone round a few times on the M6 due to getting lost!
At least you had a little adventure lol! :rotfl: Lovely of you to ask the elderly lady round too
Glad you managed to eat some Christmas lunch yesterday Melly
Sounds like a successful day WaS!
Elsien, I might adopt one of those phrases myself, they're great!
Have just done 2 tattoos in my new colouring book. They look good even if I do say so myself! I don't know about them de-stressing though, I think I feel worse! I'm too much of a perfectionist, and if I go over a line or use a wrong colour it winds me up!0 -
My ear seems to be better, although that may just be the paracetamol. TOTM started yesterday too - what bad timing but I guess it gets it out of the way.
Littlewing seems to be better also, but I have only seen her for about 3 minutes since they came back from lunch.
My temperature control has gone awry but that had the benefit that I opened windows in every room and the house has had a long blast of fresh air. It feels cleaner somehow. I did some tidying/organising/washing too. I fell asleep before family returned so when I woke up curtains were drawn etc.
They have all gone out to tea. I feel slightly abandoned and headachy, especially as DH had come for a lie down and I was holding his hand. He is at work all weekend.
I am grateful that I did enough preparation during the year that Christmas has gone well despite being ill, not least because I haven't had any suicidal thoughts even lurking, and they are usually the first thing that happens when life is stressful. Probably my first Christmas without them as extended family are quite a major source of stress at times.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
