We stayed at a hotel, overnight, it was supposed to be our late honeymoon. On arrival, he was welcoming, but the hotel was a bit oldy worldy.. rooms needed some serious updating, but it was a querky place, so rolled with it.
Our room had spectacular views, but it was small, i mean real small. There was a bed, a small cupboard which had the tv and coffee making facilities on it, a walk in wardrobe(sort of), and a bathroom that was on a slant??
Let;s start with the bathroom, the sink and pedastal didnt sit together properly and could be moved, no bathroom shelf or cabinet for toothbrushes, just a couple of cups. The shower had all the pipes showing (as it is an old house), and when you opened the shower door, the water spilled everywhere onto the floor (remember, were on a slant in there), the holder that the toiletries were in was dirty. The room itself now, they obviously hadn't cleaned under the bed, as i lost a back of my earing, and pulled out a few crumbs when looking for it. The mattress was heavily stained, (didn't notice until the morning when making bed), though it did have a mattress protector on it. The pillow also had stains.
The upstairs room above us had the most awful squeaking floorboards, and they kept us awake until 1am, walking about and opening and shutting the drawers, then again at 5.30am!
The breakfast was lovely, although a tad small, 1 sausage, 1 bacon, 1 egg, 1 small hash brown, and beans. There was toast though and a help yourself cereal etc.
On our departure, we didn't get chance to complain,, we were tired, fed up, and the owner just took the key and disapeard.
So we sent an email, and 5 days later we had a reply... apparently, the staining on the mattress was independently inspected and it was found to be from being stored, against some wooded item apparently..... yea right,.. i know a soiled mattress from humans when i see it!!!
And yes i do have pictures of all my complaints.....
Rant over!!!

Was it faulty towers by any chance?
Doubt you can do much here bar vent online so I'd suggest that not bothering to waste anymore time and effort on it and simply do not re-book the place again.0 -
Late honeymoon and it was other guests keeping you awake and not the other way round?
Sounds wild0 -
What did you pay for - a 5* hotel or a 3* b&b? Whilst it doesn't sound like the best experience it does come across that you were looking for problems - either that or you'd booked the hotel blind so your expectations were too high?0

lol we were not looking for problems at all, and it was a 3* hotel... You can not tell from pictures online whether you are going to have problems or not, and the hotel looked perfect! we paid £88 for the room.
And yes, i have left a report on tripadvisor along with pictures.
Also, he also stated the fact that i had removed the mattress protector which was there for our protection.. erm i thought that was to protect the mattress from stains etc.. but maybe im wrong.. it was flimsy anyway and came away with the sheet as it did not tuck in properly, thats how we saw the staining!,,, and being as our complaint was non viable, (staining is due to it being stored next to some wood item maybe), he insinuates that the mattress and pillow is still in use...0 -
You're going to get stains on hotel mattresses, protectors can't protect against everything. As long as it has been thoroughly cleaned they pose no risk to you. I'm still not sure why you were making the bed when you were leaving?
You paid for a 3* hotel, what more did you expect?0 -
I dont expect to sleep on a heavily soiled mattress whether it's a 3* hotel or a b&b!!
If our mattress was like that at home, it would be slung out!
I always make the bed before we leave anywhere, its polite imho...0 -
I think all i can see here is inexperience in booking hotels.
If the hotel was this poor, and I believe you that it was, I'd expect other reviews would echo this. As for the price, yes it seems very expensive for a poor hotel but poor hotels CAN charge what they want.
Some hotels can self classify too.
I had a similar experience in a hotel
Once ( actually much much worse) when I allowed someone who wasn't hotel savvy to book the hotel for me.it was in a city where you'd expect prices to be higher but it was truly a dump.0 -
I would have asked to change rooms, did you? I find there is no point in complaining after the event, you need to do it at the time.0
