  • There's loads of tosh on the internet. Why is there a thread dedicated to these poor guys?
Left is never right but I always am.
  • HPC goons seem to be high on drugs or slowly becoming demented. It's pathetic how they round on posters simply posting their observations.

They ban you over there if you disagree with them, or fail to hate the right people enough. They are aware they are laughed at over here, and it sends them into paroxysms of bilious rage.

Now who is being illusionary? I check in here a few days a week for once or twice a day for a few mins, usually first thing in the morning and/or when I'm travelling into work or when I get in from work, although I'll be around for the next week or so more regularly, as I take breaks from marking students' coursework.

There isn't anything made up about my portfolio (or anything else), the mere fact that you think so, says more about you than me. When I mention my portfolio, there is a reason, either some fool has brought it up, and I am merely responding (like right now), or I am either trying to find out info from others (about investments like VC's, EIS's or SEIS's) or offering advice to someone else who wants feedback on their portfolio. Getting your portfolio correctly balanced is very important, if that isn't worth posting about, I don't know what is.

Most times I have posted on here you have been on the thread like a Hammerhead shark that hasn`t seen a chum line in a month (don`t actually know how long Hammerheads take to get hungry :rotfl:) I reckon you lurk about on here much more than you say.

But your 'reckoning' isn't particularly good.

I've just found this little gem from our old friend Bruce Banner.
I'd have to draw about £350K out of the bank to buy a suitable house. Currently that's earning about £10K a year in various savings accounts protected by the FCS guarantee, my rent is about £11K and includes maintenance etc. Since I expect house prices to fall, renting is still the obvious choice.

    ....then
Having said that, asking prices at the moment are 40%ish more than I would consider paying.

He bangs on about living in the Prime SE, well prices here have gone up more than 40% in the last four years, so another boat he's missed.

    Today
Taking opportunity cost into the equation, we're still well over £100k in pocket as a result of renting for the last ten years, so choosing not to buy when we moved area has worked out well for us.

Perhaps we'll be able to pick up a house at a reasonable price from a distressed BTL landlord in the next year or two, who knows.

Maths obviously isn't his strong point. The only person who'll be 'distressed' is him, when his Landlord boots him out in the next year or so, who knows?

His master plan appears to be:

    1) amass large wealth and keep it in the bank (saving at historically low interest rates)
    2) take said pitiful interest and flush it down the toilet
    3) retain smaller value of wealth, having been eroded by inflation
    4) gloat about your cunning plan

It's not the most sound financial plan I've seen.

Loving this thread just now, if it spreads to Edinburgh I might be able to knock my rent down to 350 p.m! http://www.housepricecrash.co.uk/forum/index.php?/topic/48163-aberdeen-aspc-stats/page-199#entry1102850463

Doubt it will spread to Edinburgh. Aberdeen is quite unique in that it's prosperity leans quite heavily on the oil sector.

There was a lot in the news about Aberdeen and oil below $60 a barrel earlier this year (could have been last year). Believe they got a bung by the government to keep things going. Not sure if that bung still exists, but can only assume it does with oil where it is now.

A report on the steal industry and the lack of support actually looks at how Aberdeen was rallied around.

No doubt someone will be along soon to tell me that it's different this time as it's Aberdeen.... or something.

Others, (who are after money), have suggested that Aberdeen could be a mini version of detroit if oil prices remain where they are in the medium term.

Time will tell I guess. But South Wales has never really re-covered from it's coal mining days.
