  • When did you move house - before or after the 16th June this year?
How long have you owned this car?

Most likely due to the OP declaring ownership of the car since 2014 when he applied for the insurance. The Insurer have decided to check this either due to a random audit or because they've checked a database & realised it's wrong.

The standard way to check in this situation is to ask for a copy of the log book to see when ownership of the vehicle started.

So it sounds like he declared 2014 as ownership from, they checked on this via requesting the log book. OP sent in log book, LV discovered ownership since 2015 and they asked for an extra premium for the difference, which the OP did not pay.

LV then cancelled the policy due to non payment (I assume the cancellation notice went to his old address as he'd not informed the Insurers of the move).

Being a bit pedantic but a V5 doesn't prove ownership.

Though when doing a vehicle change on the wife's Policy I was asked specifically if my name was on the V5.

First time I can remember being asked that, have been asked if I owned it or if it is on HP before but not if my name was on the V5.

Something is a bit off with the story as surely anybody would notice that their Direct Debit has not gone out for several months?

I probably wouldn't. I rarely look at my bank statements.

However, I do regularly check that my cars are showing as insured on Askmid.

If 'twas me in charge of things, uninsured drivers would have their vehicles crushed with them inside.

I had changed address about 2 months previous, had owned the car for a few years and had 5 years no claims so wonder if the address change can flag up on their system?
"previous" to when? The June cancellation? Whether it was April or July, you have notified them of the change of address, right?

Now that you've had a morning to speak to them, what's the outcome?

Think you are confusing me with the OP

I'm wondering if the OP didn't pay, due to not getting the letters as the insurance and other documents are registered at the wrong address.

I suspect they checked the information he had supplied to his previous Insurers via the Hunter Database or simply due to the OP either supplying different information on other quotes he asked for or the OP manipulated the date of first ownership to obtain a cheaper quote.

Alternatively it could simply have just been a random case they decided to audit the information supplied

This flagged up with LV who asked for a copy of the Log book and LV then asked for an extra premium due to the first ownership dates varying.

The OP did not pay the extra premium so after a two or three letters they then wrote to cancel the policy.
  • Hi guys thanks for all replys good or bad!!
Basically it's was the insurance companies F*** up they read my v5 wrong and put a charge onto my insurance policy which I didn't pay the reinstated my insurance for the whole term e.g from may/June up until now (the insurance company was Liverpool Victoria) btw when I took out the policy they ask for copy of driving licence, log book and details of named driver.

The insurance company are sending out a check for impound charges and I now have the car back :D
