try phoning or texting another Virgin mobile from that sim. 14p will be enough then.

You can then register it with Virgin and get the free £2 credit put on it.

Call Virgin mobile on 0800 05200837,(free from a landline), it works, just tried it, they should be able to help.

Ring above number, if sim has been registered they can find number by your name.

That is why I stated "if sim has been registered" ;)

Did you mean "registered" or "unregistered" ? because if they are "registered" they should be able to find you by the name they are registered under, well according to Virgin anyway.

  • when a sim card says sim card registration failed it doesn't mean the owner hasn't rung the network and told them name and address and stuff, it means the sim can't get on the network, try the sim in another handset, if this doesn't work, ring virgin and query it
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
BH is my best mate too, its ok :)

I trust BH even if he's from Manchester.. ;)

Yippee got the next one. 14P was still too low to phone even a virgin number but I phoned voicemail which is of course free. First I thought that would not work as instead of the number it came up voicemail on the screen. Then I pressed options and then view number.
Thanks for all the suggestions. Good one about registering and getting two pounds credit.
Now its to see if I can get anywhere with the registration failed one. I will try swapping phones.

Well done!! Though I dont understand how you got the number. You rang voicemail then what? Where are the options that tell you to view your own number?

Cant believe it wasnt enough to ring a Virgin no. though - it's 10p per minute isnt it? (It was 5p until recently)

I pressed the number one holding it down. That is the shortcut to get voicemail. A voice tells me that the voicemail is not activated. I ring off. Then I pressed the green button that brings up the last number. I pressed that and voice mailbox comes up and on screen it lists options. I scrolled down and then came across view number. Bingo.
    Hope it works for you.
