virgin sim cards - the following happens.

I have recently pulled out three virgin payg sim cards that I have kept in case of friends from abroad coming over and can use them.
However I have found the following happen when I tried them.
1. Worked but would not allow a phone call. I dialled 789 and was told there was a balance of 14P.
2. Screen reads "insert sim card"
3. Screen reads "Sim card registration failed".
Now the questions are as follows.
a. What does the above mean.
b. Can I find out the number allocated to each sim particuarly the one with the 14P balance.
c. If the other two have been cancelled what would be the reason for this.

    Have they been registered and used if yes have you conformed to the following especially the last condition?

    http://www.virginmobile.com/vm/genericContent.do?contentId=our.service.footer.sm068
    7. When we may suspend or disconnect services

    7(a) We may suspend our services or disconnect any SIM card(s) from the network without warning if:
    • the network breaks down or needs maintenance. We will try to make sure this does not happen often;
    • you do not, or someone who uses your SIM card does not, keep to the conditions of this agreement, or any other agreement with us;
    • you or anyone who uses your SIM card damages the network or puts it at risk, or abuses or threatens our staff;
    • we are required to comply with an order, instruction or request of any government body, any emergency service organisation, or any other person or organisation with the appropriate authority; or
    • you choose not to make a call or send a text message for 180 days or more.
  • Some free SIMs have a shelf life in respect that they have to be registered within a certain time.

    Could be yours have expired?
    Dave. :wave:

    Thanks to you both. To be honest I cant remember which I have used or not which is why I wanted to know if there is a way I can trace the number allocated and then I might be able to trace it back. I didn't realise there was the six month rule but it is possible that one or two of these may have had credit on them.I did not think they could cancel your so, card if you had credit on it If I find out the number I might find paperwork allocated to them.

    Throw them all away its not worth the bother trying to get 14p back. Virgin free PAYG sim,s are available on a regular basis just watch for posts here. When you get them just register and make a text / voice call every 160-170 days to keep them active.

    Not so. Offers for them compared to other suppliers are few and far between.

    Its not the 14P its keeping the number which I cant even load more on if I dont know it. Although if the number is live and you transfer it to 3 network they give you a tenner credit. That has to be good for mse'rs.
    Anyway how do I find these numbers?
  • just phone another mobile number from the virgin sim, the other mobile will have the virgin sim number stored !! :rolleyes:

    Yes you are right. It seems you need more than 14p on the card to make a call.
    So I have now been told that if you dial star hash 67 hash then call it should bring up the number. But it brought up 'inactive all services'.
    Good news is that the sim that previously said insert sim card is now working.

    Try texting another mobile from the sim. A text is either 3p or 10p so this should be enough.
    Or if you can get into the phone book, sometimes there is a my number section, expecially on nokias.
