  • I have just been reading post no.1 of this thread - In fact this was the post that I read last year when I was looking for my first uggs & did not want to pay the overinflated Deckers prices.
It was started by Martin himself. Thank you Martin!
I bet he did not realise back then that this thread would not still be going on over a year later & become the busiest most viewed thread in the Bargain buys,Sassy shopping & fantastic freebies forums!

I would like to quote a section from this first post

What’s the deal with cheap Ugg Boots?

While trendy sheepskin Ugg boots typically cost over £170 on the high street, it’s possible to save heaps by ordering from Australian websites which deliver to the UK.

When is an Ugg not an Ugg?

Having done some digging, it appears that in Australia, the word Ugg is a generic term for sheepskin boots. So just because a pair of Ugg Boots isn’t made by “UGG® Australia” –the famous brand beloved by celebs such as Pammy Anderson – they aren’t necessarily fake.

Obviously the post is there to read in full should anyone wish to. Hopefully this will go toward dispelling the myth that some folk believe that the only Genuine Uggs are the ones made by Deckers.

I would do it, the only thing is my printer is not working. If you want to PM me some pics I'll see if I can do it and print it at a friends.

I did use to work in retail (many years ago) in both shoe shops and sports shops as manager so i have dealt with a lot of shoes so this might help. ;)

That would be excellent if you could do that mookie. I'll get them pictures in your inbox within the next 10 minutes. You could send the document through email and I could print it myself. I'll just pop to the local newsagent and fax it over to them then.

Hello Chameleon, Mookie too if you are about

    Our paths keep crossing lately
I'm so pleased that you are both with me on the Genuine Uggs subject.
Throughout this thread it has often got into the 'they are not genuine as they are not made by Deckers' line of thought.
    Think Chinese whispers!
I sometimes read them & think, oh yeah whatever & other times I'll reply in the defence of the poor Ugg boot & it's origin.
It cannot be doing the reputation of other Ugg manufacturers any good when people truly believe Deckers are the only genuine ones.
If people want to pay a premium for the Deckers china made boots then that's up to them. It has to be because of the label!
The Ugg cardys (yes, they are Deckers) I have I got from m & m direct when they had them for £49.99 as there is no way I would have paid the £119 that ugg australia (deckers) are charging. I got these only because I liked the style & none of the other Ugg manufacterers were doing them.

I feel now that it's become my mission to defend the lowly Uggs' origin!

I am still on my search for companys that are selling quality Genuine Sheepskin uggs that are not made by Deckers

Have you tried Costco? My Daughter got a pair of size 3 (shes 7 and going to have big feet like her Mum!). Thery are sheepskin upper and insock, and in my opinion very good quality as is everything at Costco. The price? A massive £14!

    Thanks ethansmum
Wow almost an adult size already.
I've got a 6 yr old boy and he's only just going into a 12.
I'm actually looking for the twin faced sheepskin boots.
This is the sheepskin as worn by the sheep (sounds horrid, obviously it gets treated!) I think the ones you refer to are actually lined & not sheep grown! I'm sure they are lovely & a great bargain & they would be the type of boot that I have bought my 5 yr old grandaughter. She loves her boots.

:rotfl: yes I actually felt quite ashamed sitting here in my Ugg Australia boots last night that arent even made in Australia. :o

I cannot justify making future purchases on Ugg Australia boots if they continue to hike the price by £10-£20 a year. The Hartings price on Canterbury boots is like half to a third of the prices of UA with free delivery too. If they keep going up I will look at alternative brands. I bought some grommies for my DD they are too big and sit in the cupboard but the quality of them is no different to my UA boots.

I have seen Sienna Miller in magazine photos wearing other brands, also Kate Moss has been photographed with her daughter in another brand too. They are both in the following link as are Pamela Anderson in other uggs and Jessica Alba.

So even celebrities wear other brands with pride.

Forgive me then, I would have put my mortage on the UGG name being copyrighted by Deckers.

I have read it in many places, after a quick few min browse, I could only find Hartings... Quote "In the nineties American company Deckers Outdoor bought UGG Holdings, owners of the trademark rights to the UGG and UGG Australia brands. "

According to them, Anyone that uses the brand UGG on their boots is infringing Deckers rights. At least, thats what I have believed.
  • still waiting for my uggs from shudoo to arrive, ordered them wednesday morning at 10am :(:(:(

I know what's a genuine Ugg and whats not, I don't need to read through the thread. Yes Australia were making Ugg's before Deckers bought the brand over. Deckers bought not only Ugg Australia but the Ugg brand too. Every boot that has Ugg or Ugg Australia branded onto them have to be Deckers genuine or they are fakes. They may be nicely made, they may have been around for a long time, but if they are not genuine Ugg Australia by Deckers they are not real.

HockeyDuo gave 2 websites, http://www.uggbootsdirect.com/ these are fakes as they are waaaay to cheap. http://www.uggbootshop.com.au/ are also laughably fake because you can tell just by looking and also they bear the brand 'Ugg' which Deckers own, so are not genuine Ugg Australia.

There may be Ugg style of boots that are very well made and what you or some people are looking for, and I never said you sacrificed on quality, I'm pleased your happy with yours. All I am trying to say was that anything with Ugg on its own is fake as Deckers own it and It should be Ugg Australia. Most people will see that and think they are genuine Ugg Australia by Deckers and unfortunately this is not the case.

If you bought the £55 boots from Hartings you did not buy chestnut Ugg boots, you bought an Ugg style of boot, you have to be careful of whats said as that is misleading. Someone could read that and think Hartings are selling Ugg's for £55. As soon as Ugg is mentioned 99% of people will auto think Ugg Australia. No you didnt buy fakes, but you didnt buy Ugg's either as I said, Decker's own the Ugg and Ugg Australia names.

I would not purchase boots from the first of the 2 links that you quote above. I don't like the look of the website.Just on that basis alone, I'm not saying that they are fake. It's a personal choice & a judgement on my part.

But would not have a problem with purchasing from the second one - uggbootshop.com
You consider both of these to be fake.
On what basis may I ask?
Just have a look at their disclaimer - they are not claiming to sell Deckers Uggs, they are selling their own brand of Uggs
Surely claiming as you do that these are so laughably fake would have to be backed up with fact. I'm sure if the company concerned were to read this they could have an argument for libel on their hands.
