Hanging out washing

Since when has CLEAN washing blowing in the breeze saving the environment from even more harm been an unsightly practice!0

It sure feels like a prison camp at times!0

Have you actually looked at paperwork to see if there are any restrictions....0

You might be better off posting in http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16 as this seems to be an issue with the lease and the building management.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
I have looked at the lease and there is a no laundry clause. There is also a no singing, no pianola and no amplified anything clause. My point is that the clause is out dated and should not be legally allowed to apply in this, educated, day and age.0

There should be some sort of legislation to overturn rules on drying washing as while some people might be offended, I'd rather see washing than look out on a car park for example. My apartment block has a communal car park and someone hung a line up between 2 walls at the far end and someone from the managing agent sent a furious letter saying the line must come down - but surely a load of parked cars are more unsightly than a few items of clothing? There is a film about silly rules on drying http://www.dryingforfreedom.com/0

I agree there should be legislation to make these rules not allowed. There must be someone out there who feels strongly enough and has the knowledge of these things who will take that legislation to wherever it needs to go to be passed!0

I'm guessing the problem would come if others in the block did the same as you. It sounds like the communal area is for leisure purposes. Putting out a few chairs and pots etc are likely to make it easier to use for leisure. If half a dozen of you decide to use it for laundry then the leisure amenity is greatly reduced.
Your only recourse might be to campaign on a more general basis. ie not "I want to do this" with the resulting vote for others to stop the individual stepping out of line , but more a "Should WE have a small defined part of the communal area as a laundry area" with the rights to communal washing lines for all.0 -
In our community unsightly practices are banned on all public areas and areas not included in leases like balconies, so here no one hangs washing out.
Why would anyone want to live in a "community" where drying laundry outside is considered unsightly? It sounds like a sucky place to live.
I've read a bit about the "right to dry" and people having problems over the pond with getting washing lines accepted, but I'm absolutely amazed that people over here have a problem with it.
OP - keep fighting the good fight. I'd be so bloody minded as to keep drying no matter what the rest of the NIMBY's say. If you have some embarrassing washing (luminous frilly knickers, offensive t-shirts etc.) then make sure to hang them out while the b******s are around.0 -
Can you contact the directors and ask them to take a "vote" on whether these neighbours are going to be allowed to have their bits out then? Either everyone can have their bits out or no-one can.
If the vote goes in favour of they cant do so - then be prepared to negotiate that they can have their bits if you can have your bit (ie that washing line).0
