The vast majority of shops do have very accommodating good will returns/exchange schemes.
I just find it unacceptable to call the shop assistant incompetent and useless over a simple mistake such as this. You could also go along the lines of saying, well didn't the OP notice the pricing error when she entered her dads PIN into the card reader? (Tut tut, unless she has POA etc)0 -
That may or may not be right.ThumbRemote wrote: »But if a shopper is incompetent and useless and buys the wrong item, then they don't have any rights and are completely reliant on the goodwill of the store to put it right.
I think you meant to say "they don't have any statutory rights".
But we seem to be wandering a little off-topic here.

A transposition error does not make someone incompetent or useless, it makes them human. Plus why did the OP not pick it up on the card terminal or the receipt - are you calling them useless and incompetent too?0 -
I would be more concerned that you went shopping with someone else's bank card!!0

Imagine the complaints if a customer took something back to the shop as they purchased the wrong size/colour etc and the shop staff said "Its not our fault you was incompetent and useless, go complain to someone else"
No, especially not in a job. I think I am perfect! :eek:0 -

Maybe they are blind and therefore couldn't see the card terminal to confirm the amount. Did you not think of that! :rotfl:My friend who is blind trusts that the amount input into the card terminal is correct when she is shopping out alone.0 -

Your blind friend would of course be entitled to be refunded should an error be made and they were overcharged. It works both ways. All errors can and should be corrected.0 -
When ever I've used a card to pay for something, I'm always asked to check the amount and enter my pin.
Now call me a cynic but I'm wondering if the OP did spot the error and decided to play dull and hope the shop didn't spot it but deliver the mattress anyway.
unfortunately they have spotted their error before delivery so are quite rightly asking for the difference to be paid before it's delivered0 -

No, I didn't think of that - I just thought you were being offensive for the sake of it.0
