Don't judge a book by it's cover...or in this case, do.

    Absolutely nothing impresses me, apparently!

Ha same here! Then again, still don't get the point of the game. How good are you at guessing how much readers appreciated a book based on its cover and title?

And? It doesn't tell you if the readers picked them based on the cover any way, so what's the point? I wouldn't have chosen most of these based on the cover, hence I suppose the response that 'nothing much impresses me'. Well plenty does, but certainly not that game!

    And this comment:

Yep, because all the books you threw at me looked rubbish. smiley-rolleyes010.gif

I wouldn't even have picked any of them up in a bookshop.

It might be just me - but I can't see the point in this at all. smiley-confused013.gif
I got exactly the same and agree with your assessment :D
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

80% accuracy. it's a bit of a giveaway when the book cover says something like "new york times bestseller" :D

I scored really poorly - mainly because I judged on the basis of whether I'd like the book, not the general public!

  • what a load of old tosh.

yes the cover may catch my eye when I go into the library but if the write up doesn't inspire me then I don't bother.

I may go for a book that everyone raves about but again if the book doesn't grab me then I don't waste my time with it.

don't have any particular favourite genre but I tend not to bother with 'chick lit' as it seems very formulistic

78% but there were definitely some genres I wouldn't be keen on even if they were brilliantly written.

As the website is a .com, then I expect that these covers are for US publications and aimed at what the publishers believe the US readers look for in a book cover.

If the same book is published in the UK it will probably have a different cover all together so we would probably judge the book differently if we got to see the UK versions.

    Edited to add example:

If you search for 'novel the madman's daughter' you will see two covers one in red and text only which is the UK version and one with an image of a girl / woman on the cover which is the US version. No idea why they are so different.

They're different because they're different publishers.

The one on Amazon UK says Harper Voyager as the publishers. Amazon US says Balzer + Bray.

The UK hardback has the same cover and publisher as the US paperback and hardback.
