I'm having trouble with attachments again, trying to send a flyer that I've done on publisher. I've converted to pdf and the extension is .pdf but it won't send. I'm on outlook 6 and the mail admin message says the pdf is broken. I know I'm doing something wrong here, can someone explain very simply please?:o

Have you converted to pdf or have you just renamed the file to.pdf?0

Can you open the pdf on your computer?0

I used cutepdf to convert and I can open it on my computer.0

Please post the exact and complete error message.0

Here's the message - it bounced back 12x even though I only sent it once.
Your message was not delivered because the destination computer refused
to accept it (the error message is reproduced below). This type of error
is usually due to a mis-configured account or mail delivery system on the
destination computer; however, it could be caused by your message since
some mail systems refuse messages with invalid header information, or if
they are too large.
Your message was rejected by london.sin1.netline.net.uk for the following reason:
Mime Error: Serious MIME defect detected (demime acl condition:
'message/partial' MIME type)
Your attachment is broken.0 -
How big is the attachment? Try creating a small .pdf file (no more than 100 KB) and sending that to yourself as a test. If that works it confirms that .pdf files themselves are not being rejected by the mail server. If it doesn't, give the .pdf file a different extension such as .rename_to_pdf and send that.
Also check in Outlook Express: Tools - Accounts - Mail - select appropriate account - Properties - Advanced. Make sure 'Break apart messages...' is not ticked.
Also disable any email scanning by your anti-virus.0 -
The pdf file is 587 kb. I copied it into a word doc and took out any decorative bits - ie border, pics (had to leave one pic) and that file is 25mb - won't send either. Would it send if I change it to rtf, or is it the pic that's the problem? People often send me quite large docs with pics, but often as part of the email rather than attachment.

Chippy - I did everything you said, and the box was ticked so changed that and the files are sending no probs now!! Thank you so much, it's so frustrating when things don't work!!

That explains why you got 12 bounce messages even though you only sent it once. OE was splitting the email into separate messages and each one bounced back.
The 'Break apart messages' box is not normally ticked. Can you remember ticking it? It can be used for hiding malware in emails, so I would do a full virus/spyware scan.0 -
Hi chippy
No, i deff wouldn't have ticked it, didn't even know it existed till today!
Do you mean it can hide malware when ticked or unticked? Ill do a scan, do you know anything about avg anti-spy as a bug that I thought I'd deleted several weeks ago keeps showing in the results as 'ignore once' - I don't know if that means the bug is still there.
Thanks for your help.0
