Monday 7th September - What small DFW things will you do today?

Morning all, I often lurk on this thread to read how everyone's day has gone/is going but rarely post.
My last week at home before I return to work so trying to make it count. Having been off for 9 weeks, am now feeling the financial pinch rather painfully. Although I get paid 12 mths a year, this summer has been really expensive!
So, a few things on my to-do list today....
Phone Govt Pension people and request Pension Statement (thought I ought to check that all is in order - got AGES until I retire but it pays to be informed). I used the WQ4U (we queue for you) app on my phone to ring the 0345 number so that I didnt have to pay for the call.
Been food shopping - spent £24.59 for hopefully most of the week's food. We'll be eating out of the freezer this week due to lack of £££s.
Defrost pork mince and make meatballs for tea using store cupboard ingredients.
Get some bits & pieces ready to list on fleabay later in the week.
Hoover out my car boot as full of conifer needles after trip to tip yesterday.
Think that's about it.... oh, and wash/dry as much as possible on the line today.
Have a great Monday everyone. x0 -
Hmmm - just had a thought. My CC is currently interest free for about another 2 years. Any payments I make off my CC I actually make off my CC (if that makes sense!) I know interest rates are abysmal but should I just make the minimum payments and save the money in my ISA and then pay it all off in one go - i.e. gaining a small amount of interest on it?
It's up to you.
However, the quicker you pay it offer the quicker your credit rating will improve, if that matters to you?
Also, depends on whether you think the amount of interest gained is worth it. For example, if you invest £3000 in an ISA at 1% for one year you'd make £30.14 compound interest after that time. After two years you'd have earned a total interest of £60.58.
Personally I'd sooner the debt was gone.

Afternoon DFW-ers,
I've been very good and ploughed through a list of jobs that don't exactly make my heart leap with joy. Now I can spend the afternoon on the things I like doing:
Nillionaire Month Three:
* Free Physio from OH.
* Checked Finances. Our energy company have til tonight to get our refund in before I blow a gasket. I called them to ask why they'd taken £63 from us by DD not £58 as promised. Got nowhere. At this rate I'll be complaining through Resolver, again. (Link)
* Limit caffeinated drinks to three coffees today.
* Turned alarm clock off at the wall til tonight.
* Did a mountain of job-seeking tasks.
* Get OH to store away the last of the beetroot.
* Watch a film recorded overnight from the tv.
Offer:
* £1 voucher off The Saucy Fish Company. (Link)
Thought for the day:

Have a good day all.

Hi everyone
Sorry you're poorly Ziggy - sounds scary I hope you're ok
I'm at work today but have tomorrow off to finally move out of flat. I think the fact I'm only moving to the next block has made this a more drawn-out process as I've not had to hire a van or do it on one day! Will be so glad when the keys are handed back.
A friend came round last night to fix a spotlight that had been hanging off my kitchen ceiling for nearly 3 years. It took him about 30 seconds to fixI bought him a bottle of wine as a thank you as I was completely clueless as to how to fix it and so worried the landlord would take a huge chunk of my deposit because of it!
NSD today (won't be tomorrow)
Moving sofa and last bits tonight ready to clean tomorrow. I remember the sofa being hard work to move in to my flat so can only imagine it'll be hard work moving it out again. At least it's exercise!!
All meals from stores
FPL done, surveys still to do
Updated finances - it was looking grim as I'm having to shell out for window and carpet cleaners tomorrow but I'm waiting for a cheque to clear (sold washing machine and fridge freezer to my landlord for £120 - absolute steal!) so that'll see me through to the end of the month
Walk poochy and look out for more roadkill
My lovely colleague brought me some spare knitting needles as I want to move on from just knitting blanket squares! There are five pairs all different sizes so I'll have to knit her something as a thank you (possibly a blanket at this stage - I have plenty of squares! :rotfl:)

I've so had it with eBay and PayPal!
An unhappy customer wanted a refund so he returned the item to me. I used eBay's dispute resolution system, as initiated by the buyer, and clicked Refund. Despite me having adequate cleared funds in my account eBay's system automatically sent the guy a 7 day-to-go-through e-cheque not an immediate payment without forewarning me. Now I have an angry guy in my Inbox! Nowhere in the Resolution system does it say that this would happen: I've read almost every page of the Help package!
eBay helpline don't want to know as it went through on PayPal and eBay and PayPal are now separate companies and PayPal don't want to help either. Each blames the other.
I think I'll be closing both accounts soon.
I am currently reading up on PayPal alternatives on a website whose name is a bit vulgar so I can't post it on here(!) but if you google "PayPal alternatives" you'll certainly see it in the top ten results if PayPal is hacking you off too.

Hi All
Staggering in with a late check in.
Ziggy - I really hope you will be ok. What a scary incident for you & your family, so sudden as well.
Yorkshire - Sorry to hear you are poorly too. Get well soon.
Determined - Such a good technique that you mentioned, the do you need it pause? If you really want that dressing gown Im sure you will find the money, but will you still in a few days, I also find that really works. Have commented on your diary, but good luck with the presentation. Knock them dead
Dawn - How was the pup last night? Any improvements? I thought of you over the weekend with the news about how many dogs are removed from their owners for years on end, because of the suspected breed. I felt very sorry for both dog an owner, and just thought, how can they allow these things to just drag on like that? Who is it really helping?
Greensalad - Sounds like pretty good news all round then?
Ally - Really hope you get your rebate soon.
Twiggy - I think maybe go down the paying off route. And anything else spare, to the mortgage?
Sellurgranny - Lovely to read your update, come and join in more often, we like to chat to everyone
JoJo - What sandwich were you trying to freeze?
Princess - That made me chuckle about your spotlightI am sure we are all guilty of having little jobs like that, that we just never get around to. Good luck with the move.
So my own small things for the day:
1.£3 in tips. I used this to buy another block of Cathedral City, using the last of my Orchard £1 vouchers, so a big 350g block for only £1 paid
2. Used the other £2 to buy some shopping.
3. I have reached the £4 payout limit on Shoptize, actually £4.15 now, went to take it out but it was failing on both BACS and paypal. So I've emailed to ask them why. I want it for CC payments.
4. Uploaded 4 reciepts to Clicksnap for 4p
5. Cycled all journies.
6. Made lunchbox for tommorow
7. Checked both sets of banking
8. Took all reciepts out of my purse and put them for shredding if they'd cleared account
9. Made low cost evening meal - lasagne
10. Sharing bath water, I will run it in a moment, have it first, then son & husband can have it after.
Think thats me.

Had fun this afternoon using the Rug Dr machine that my mum hired today to do all my carpets. Couldn't believe the muck that came out of them! All for the princely price of taking it back to the shop tomorrow and replacing the cleaning fluid my mum gave me. Love getting summat for nuthin!
Thanks for the welcome Bobarella, I'll try to pop out of the woodwork more often in future.0 -
Evening all, I've had the worst day today
My car is very old (20 years old!) but it has always been a trooper, however this morning, it didn't start at all, I kept trying it for about 15 minutes, then it started, however is so unsafe to drive, has no power and I nearly got hit at a roundabout as it didn't pull away
So that's my car off to scrappage, for all £75 of him!
Back to the bus I guess as I can't afford a new car any time soon!
Anyway that's enough of my awful day! I hope everyone else's was OK!
Today I have/will -
- Amend budget spreadsheet as won't need to pay petrol/insurance costs
- Check online banking
- Get some cash for the bus - Done
- My Surveys
- Swagbucks
- Try and make some money for a new motor!

* Finally my doctor's surgery has got it's online precription ordering App running properly so OH and I can order online without having to wait on the phone for 15 mins or making a 20 mile round trip in person to place an order. We registered for the App a year ago and it's taken that long for it to actually work. My GP didn't even know the surgery was signed up for it. Anyway, it's called Patient Access by EMIS Health and lots of NHS surgeries have signed up. Some surgeries let you book appointments through it too; ours doesn't. Boo! Perhaps in another year...
