Streaming from iPad to TV with chromecast

It's 2015 and the era of technology, there should be a way of casting a movie that I've downloaded. Come on, that's hardly a massive ask. So my ipad can be playing a movie and also have the functionality to connect to the tv wirelessly, but can't cast the movie? I'm not having that.
So basically, you're making up something you want the device(s) to do that hasn't been built into them, whether by the maker of the pad/chromecast, nor the software designers, and when it doesn't do this task, you're going to stamp your foot, and take it back to where you bought it?
The Chromecast will cast through a defined set of apps, not from any old file stored on your pad.0 -

The Sky Go app will also block use of any screen sharing for similar reasons.
None of the above is the Chromecast's fault. If you rent a movie on Google Play store, you can stream that on the Chromecast.0 -

ok, we're getting somewhere now. Ok, so my movies are on my pc. How do I install plex server on my pc? Just google it and download? Then will that connect to the chromecast and allow me to watch it on the TV in another room.
To everyone else - thanks for your replies. I'm not moaning about chromecast per se, just the fact that I apparently can't do something which, in the context, seems relatively simple. I'm not a techie so please excuse my ignorance. I'm learning.0 -

I'm not stamping my feet at all. I merely purchased something for a purpose but did not fully understand that that product couldn't fulfil that purpose. Not planning to take it back because it's a bad product, simply because it appears to be of no use to me. Like if I bought a toaster at the same time as my other half bought a toaster, I'd most likely take it back as I don't Require it. If they accept it back and refund, great, if not then I'll just write off the £30 and lesson learned to do more research.0 -

Well I can tell you our Android tablets can cast to our TV,WD TV and Xbox One out the box.
Seems more like an Apple issue TBH.0 -

No need to install plex. Install the videostream app from the chrome app store on your PC's chrome browser and then scan the folder containing your videos. You can then install the videostream ios mobile app on your ipad to load, stop and start the videos. It couldn't be simpler0 -

you can either do as swipe says above and install videostream on your chrome browser and tablet or install plex server https://plex.tv/downloads on pc and plex app on tablet.
i haven't used videostream but it looks like it does the same thing as plex and will allow you to cast your media collection to any tv within wireless range"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -

Yup, gonna try the video stream option tonight.
Tried plex on my pc but wouldn't install due to the need for windows update. Did the updates but still didn't work. Written off that option.0 -
This iPad app (I use it with a Roku)
http://www.google.co.uk/url?q=https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/video-tv-cast-for-chromecast/id907405413%3Fmt%3D8&sa=U&ved=0CCIQFjACahUKEwjhjOCos-7HAhUtINsKHTXgBpQ&sig2=5gNt0TmIujfGHVemt2yHYw&usg=AFQjCNE2d7VcC6icW37EKO5MMvbpOm3ABQ
Has a picture of a Chromecast stick and claims to stream from your iPad.
I suspect that casting from iTunes downloaded content will be purposely blocked.
But for ad hoc downloaded videos it might just work (it certainly casts from camera recorded videos).
There a fully functional free version to prove it out with.
Best of luck!0 -

Nope, this doesn't work either.
SAys "it looks like your firewall is blocking videostream blah blah...." and "download this to try to fix it".. I download it and try to run it but nothing happens.0
