So I've got the chromecast and downloaded movies which are sat in the videos app, but I can't cast them. Tried loads of apps to do so but no go.
Can anyone help and make me realise that the chromecast isn't the biggest waste of money I've ever encountered?!

can you cast at all?
I assume you have the chromecast app?
Does youtube cast?0 -
If you have downloaded these with iTunes I would assume the only way you can watch these on your TV is using the Apple TV box or the apple to HDMI cable.
There is a comprehensive list of apps for Chromecast, which do work, BT Sport, BBC iPlayer, and Plex to name a few.
Plex will be ideal if you haven't downloaded the movies using iTunes.0 -
try using fs file explorer and localcast or stick them on a pc and use the chrome videostream app and use your tablet as the remote.0

Downloaded it but not though iTunes so I manually transferred to my iPad.
All other stuff works but I've no need for iplayer etc as I have that through my you view box and xbox anyway.
Will try plex.try using fs file explorer and localcast or stick them on a pc and use the chrome videostream app and use your tablet as the remote.
Ok, I've no idea how to do that but assume it's simple with a bit of Google help. Will try it. Thanks.0 -

There's a defined set of apps which will cast with the Chromecast. It sounds like you're expecting it to do something it wasn't designed to do.

Really? At less than £30?0 -

It's 2015 and the era of technology, there should be a way of casting a movie that I've downloaded. Come on, that's hardly a massive ask. So my ipad can be playing a movie and also have the functionality to connect to the tv wirelessly, but can't cast the movie? I'm not having that.
Plex doesn't work - it just doesn't do anything, there's no option to add files to it.
I'm trying to upload to VLC wirelessly but having issues due to my internet constantly going into 'local only'.0 -

Well no offence, but you chose hardware that isn't the most open standard
Running the Plex server?0 -
Downloaded the plex app on the iPad. No worky.
Plex works by serving videos, photos etc from a 'plex' server to the Plex client - which is the bit you installed
But no server - no worky0 -
a tablet isn't the place to store your movie collection. you need to store your movies on a server/nas/pc/laptop and then install plex server on that device in order to cast to tv
a tablet is fine for watching a movie on the go or for when the other half is watching coronation street but not for storing all your movies"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0
