Applying for a Halifax Clarity Credit Card - with/without current account?

Options
Hi all

I am aiming to get a Halifax Clarity Credit Card but do not have a Halifax current account as of yet. I was wondering what are people's experience of applying for the Halifax Clarity without or with the Halifax current account? Would having a current account improve your chances of getting it through the online banking system?

    My partner applied for his last year without a Halifax bank account and was successful; albeit he received the lowest credit limit of any of the cards he holds (most are between £7-10k each card and the Halifax was £1k).

    Very interesting point. My OH used to have lots of offers for their credit card but when he switched his banking account away from HX he applied for one of their cards and was rejected immediately.

    I applied shortly before moving away and got accepted straight away.

    Also on the eligibility checker he had 90 percent of success and me only 40 percent.

    Make of that what you will.

    Applied earlier this year without a Halifax current account. Got quite a low limit of £1250 - previous limits on cards have been £5k+

    Can't comment on the acceptance but to get the £5 Reward on the Clarity Card, you must have an existing current account. I made the mistake of getting the Clarity Card first but they refused to make it a Rewards card once I got a current account open.

    I also got a low limit but my online request to increase it to £5k was instantly approved after 6 months of minimal usage.
  • I applied for clarity about a year ago without having the current account. It was approved without any issues and also got a 6K credit limit even though all I asked for was 2K. I am surprised to hear that others got a low credit limit.

    I applied three times over the space of about a year before I was accepted... had a Reward Current Account all three times. When I got accepted, I was offered a £600 limit. Fine for what I want it for, but still extremely low compared to my other offers in the past.
  • I have a Halifax card. I was given 1K limit but they only ever offer me balance transfers for 6 months. They have increased to 1500 after 9 months. This may be just for me though.

    I do have a Halifax account aswell

    Did you had to make a call to make it a Rewards card or is it applied directly onto the card if you have a Rewards Current account?

    That is another reason for opening a current account before the getting the credit. Especially for the switching bonus too! But I do not spare accounts to close >.<!

    I guess you'll be enrolled to the Reward system if you have a current account while applying for the card; no need to request for it.

    From The Card's T&C:

    http://www.halifax.co.uk/creditcards/help-guidance/terms-and-conditions/clarity-card/
    11. REWARD PAYMENT

    11.1 - If you meet the requirements set out in condition 11.2, then for any statement period in which you:-

    (a) make at least £300 of Purchases (once any Purchases refunded in that period have beend deducted);
    (b) stay within your credit limit; and
    (c) make your minimum monthly payment;

    you will qualify for a £5 credit to your account in the following month. The credit will not be treated as a payment to your account under these conditions.
    11.2 - To be eligible for the reward set out in condition 11.1, you must, at the time you enter into this agreement:-

    (a) hold a Halifax current account and pay in £1,000 or more each month;
    (b) use our switching service to move your current account to a Halifax Current Account and agree to pay in £1,000 or more each month;
    (c) open or hold a Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account.
  • Got 8K limit when I applied a year or so ago. 12.95% APR.

    I don't have a current account or indeed any other accounts with Halifax.
