Most banks will only give loans to existing customers. Halifax, barclays, natwest, Tsb,coop etc
and have to open an account first which itself will take a week or longer.
I came across a company called Hitachi. Not sure if they are serious lender or some time waster and want to prevent having searches on my file if they are just time waster

Yes Hitachi are a well known make for TV's, they have also entered into the loan sector or they let someone else provide the finance under the Hitachi brand.

Yes I've heard of Hitachi Personal Finance. At 4.4% APR it's not a bad rate (assuming you get it) and they seem to state they pay out within 48hrs. It seems to fit the criteria you are after - one search won't harm your credit file.

  • I'm sure it doesn't matter what you need the money for as it's a personal loan.

It absolutely does matter as it's a personal loan, and banks' criteria will exclude certain purposes.

    (Halifax, Lloyds,Tsb,RBS,Coop,HSBC, Barclays,Natwest)
all these will only give loan to customers and that's what my previous statement pretty much meant. Those are the major banks and you will have to open an account with them first, even if i went into my local barclays with my ID and proof of address etc i would still have to open an account with them first before eligible for a loan and this take time minimum 7 days to receive all the account paperwork and card then will have to apply for a loan afterwards.

Thanks for your comment even though i do not necessarily find yours helpful but thanks nonetheless for taking the time in writing.
  • Thanks Candyapple and DCFC79(i pray you're not a chelsea fan lol) for the suggestion, i will have to proceed with Hitachi finance now. Seem the best bet at the minute
  • If you go into a bank branch tomorrow, you may be able to apply then and there, sign the paperwork and have the money within 48 hours. If the postage and return time is the issue, remove that bit of the problem by doing it in person?

And banks will lend to non-account holders. They might offer you an account, but just say that you are happy with your existing bank. No problem.

I have a loan with Co-Op and a mortgage with Halifax.

    I have neither a Co-Op nor a Halifax account.

  • My original post was regarding personal loan (unsecured loan)
Mortgage is entirely different, You can have mortgage with say RBS and have hsbc account. it simply doesn't matter and i rang coop today, they said they have stopped giving new loans out to non-account holders since 2013, so i presume you took out your Coop loan before or in 2013 then.
