We held off switching for about 3 months as we'd paid up front line rental saver to BT, which is non refundable (BB with AOL for years, who used to keep giving us reasonable deals for staying, but didn't this year), but once that ran out we switched to Sky. All really smooth, no gap in service, and a saving of over £20 per month (plus £90 Cashback still to come)
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)
  • Apart from the fact that they are the only supplier in town, BT have pretty much 'locked us in' as we subscribe to their BT Vision and BT Mobile services. Changing those (apart from any penalty to pay) and notifying hundreds of people/businesses of a change in email address means that it is probably not worth the hassle.

  • It's possible technical issues that stop me switching. I've had bad experiences in the past where the supplier tells you they have tested the line and there is nothing wrong with it and it must be your equipment/line within your house that it is at fault and it ends up with endless calls to try and get things sorted. Everything has worked perfectly since I switched to BT infinity several years ago. So although I get frustrated that BT are more expensive than other providers I'm reluctant to risk switching.
  • I have my email linked up to fsnet.co.uk and if I changed provider I would need to change my email. A nightmare when today's life is all linked up to email addresses.......
  • I'm with talktalk and have been for years, and despite all the bad publicity I won't be changing because of the option to pay a small charge each month for as many overseas calls as I care to make ,plus all my landline calls free, as well as the broadband.
  • I looked at the options and unfortunately I'm in an area that BT has no plans to upgrade to fibre.

So if that's what you want then it's Virgin or no one.

Hopefully BT will see sense and upgrade the local exchange at some point as I'd actually like to be with PlusNet.
  • Every time I try to switch something goes wrong. Either the company i'm moving to get the order wrong or BT cancel the request for some reason. I'm trying to switch to PlusNet now from BT and it's taken nearly a month.

The devil you know is better than the devil you don't.

    Having to change email addresses.

I'm reasonably satisfied with what I have now.

Cheaper deals often mean cheaper service (as with going to Sky for instance).
  • I have been with PlusNet for nearly a year. They are not too bad but more expensive and slower than I expected. I would have switched, probably to either TalkTalk or Sky, but I paid a year's line rental in advance, so I can only switch if I am prepared to lose the rental paid in advance, which woould wipe out any other savings. My fault, but I will switch as soon as I can.
  • I would be worried about losing my email addresses and phone number...
