Your favourite ever car that you've owned

In 26 years of driving I must have owned about 15 cars which is absolutely rediculous for a money savvy person like myself but I get bored of them after about 18 months to 2 years. The longest I've had a car is 3 years and the shortest about 2 weeks. The worst car I've had is a Citroen C8 (moneypit). The most I've spent on a car is around £7000 but I reckon I was ripped off on that one. I'm feeling nostalgic for some of these cars now and I wish I hadn't of swapped them so readily I would certainly be a lot better off financially. I would love one of my old Mk 5 cortinas now but are so rare they are expensive.
Any way my favourite car that I have owned was a 1995 black BMW 318i which I sadly wrote off after about 6 months ownership after losing it on a bend. While this was a basic spec car and not particularly fast it felt so special and looked nice. I would love this car now but with 3 kids and a big car it wouldn't be practical enough. I reckon if I hadn't of wrote this off I would kept it for a good while.

Rover SD1 was my favorite to date, simply because it was my first v8 and I'd always wanted one. Sold it for £250 around 2006, they're getting thin on the ground and expensive these days too.
Currently got a classic car (nostalgic?) itch I hope to scratch soon, and am looking at everything from mk1 Fiestas through to American V8s from the 70s and 80s, and pretty much everything in between. Something with a current MOT and do a sort of rolling restoration on it.0 -
My favourite was my 1953 Ford Popular HotRod. I was 24 (18 years ago) at the time and it even made it into Street Machine (Reader's cars)
We put a 302cu in (5.0 ltr) Boss 302 Mustang engine in it.
Great fun and it is still on the road today (not owned by me

Would have to be the 1960 Humber Super Snipe Series 3 I had as a daily driver for most of the late 1990's. Leather bench seats, wilton carpets, walnut dash, column change automatic, factory power steering, no seatbelts, no wingmirrors. 3 litre straight 6 up front. £1,750.
Handbrake was between the seat and the door. As there was nothing on the transmission tunnel, you could sprawl out, lean against the B pillar with the left leg stretched out into the passenger footwell, one finger on the wheel due to the extremely assisted steering, and relax.
Fuel consumption was a little high (20mpg on a run, round town, say 14-15) and handling was ... well ... atrocious. Required maintaining (IIRC 19 grease nipples). But by far and away my favourite car.
Why don't we have column change automatics any more ? And stupid main beam on a stalk with twenty eleven other functions, instead of a sensible foot switch next to the clutch ? Oh and natty fuel fillers disguised as reflectors in the rear light cluster ?
The least favourite - Mk II Escort Popular Plus. Complete dog. Knackered clutch, water in the footwells - when I removed the trim, found I could inpect the tread pattern on the tyre through the seam between inner wing and A post.0 -
My most favourite at the time was a MK2 Golf GTI back in 1998 that got written. Last year I bought a Mk2 16V Golf based on that memory but the passage of time and other vehicles in the meantime meant I didn't enjoy it nearly as much. In terms of performance the Porsche 911 was amazing but the suspension was so hard it wasn't really a practical car.
The worst was a 1998 Ford Escort Diesel company car bought as an economical diesel but was awful, poor economy and completely gutless.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
Mini clubman that I got for £30 , paid £35 to get the clutch done
Was a shabby car but had a cooper gearbox in it and was a classic wolf in sheeps clothing ! Would leave any boy racer car of the early 80's standing at the lights , was funny to see the look on their faces !Ex forum ambassador

I can't choose between three (I've tried totting up how many cars I've actually owned in the last 23 years - I think I've forgotten some but I'm into the mid 80s)
My first ever car - a white 1967 Triumph Herald, KHJ 825E. It's blue, and hasn't had an MOT since 2008. If anyone sees it, let me know.
My first of several Rover 220 Coupe Turbos. M867 ALW, Tahiti blue. Ran well over 220BHP and was actually pretty good to drive - but was just great for surprising Impreza drivers who always thought they had it licked from a standstill until it pulled past them once 4WD transmission losses started to kick in.
The first E39 5 series (528i SE) I owned, TIB 7582. Not as fast as the M5 I had later, but it had 'Comfort' seats (which were epic), a phone in the armrest, and a fax machine in the rear armrest. It also had double glazing. Incredibly nice car to drive, and the perfect balance of performance, comfort, driving dynamics, economy and reliability.0 -
Was your e39 not a 530 and sold from Ayrshire? Sounds very familiar!0

Had the same car, got rid of it as soon as I could as the running costs were horrific.
Best car was a Ford Focus with all the toys. Loved it.Pants0 -
My Mk1 MR2 T-bar, absolute giggle to drive in any condition and still comfortable for commuting in.
Only downside to driving in the rain was it occasionally dribbled down the back of your neck on left hand bends. :rotfl:0
