Afternoon everybody
Thanks for starting Bob, hope you get a better night's sleep tonight. My list for today:

OH to report cards lost to bank - wallet MIA since Saturday, we've turned the house upside down and called everywhere we went, no joy  banking shows they haven't been used. Its just the inconvenience and cost
Meals from stores
2 loads of washing done at 30, drying outside. Both in cheap leccy time
DW on in day but used shortest programme
Update spreadsheet now wll 1st month payments have been processed
Amaz0n voucher came on email from £co - will load to account later
sort out 2 things to go back and work out when I can do it
Placed order for my own business, also need to work out when I can collect, was hoping today but that won't happen now. Will let me customers know
Drop some samples and brochure off to another new customer :T
try and go for a run later, didn't manage yesterday either but did do 3 runs and a walk friday -monday
Upcycled a plant potter that was a gift where the plant had died - put herbs in it and put it on window sill - fed said herbs with unfinished water out of yesterdays water bottle
Think that's about all, have a great day everyone

Popped in to reassure you, GreenSalad. I'm a former banker. This is all absolutely 'normal'. The UK banking system is a bit crazy but the way cheques are processed is set in stone.
Thanks! That makes so much sense. It's just a little unsettling to see that it's showing on my account as of yesterday, yet the money isn't there! Really confused my banking up.
Luckily I track everything on YNAB so I still know how much I 'have' for the month, including that £50.0 -
Offer/Competition:
Amazon is giving away £10 discount codes to some lucky winners. Yes, there's a catch, but perhaps it's worth checking if you're a winner if you use Amazon a lot. (Link)
Let us know if you're successful!

Quick newsflash from Dowd Towers:
I've been provisionally offered a job: at the last place I worked at. It isn't the 'job of my dreams' but it'll do until I can get a better one and it gets us away from the Palais de Jobcentre. I have at least one more interview lined up and the jury's still out on a post I was interviewed for earlier in the week so perhaps a 'good' job is still within my grasp. Didn't get another job I tried for, apparently I'm "too experienced". Oh well, never mind.
Off soon to compete in a charity 2km race. (I'll be the one at the back.)
Have a good evening folks.

Hi All
Ally - Delighted to hear your news! You know what they say, 'done is better than perfect'. You have nailed that!
So, today really didnt get better after my false hope this early morning. I got to the shop to discover none of the electrics would work. When I investigated I discovered that the leak that has come in from the flats above had done some serious damage overnight. This is what caused the power outage that in turn tripped out the alarm.
I couldnt get the relevant lever in the fuse box to stay up without flashes of blue light. Not a good sign. I had to go through the fuse box, and turn everything off, then gradually try & push up each breaker lever until I got the everything off again to signify the offending one. Surprise surprise it was the lights above the counter.
I phoned my landlord and just explained that for about the 10 or 12th time in my 3 year tenancy my business was being affected by the water from the flats above. He promised to get a plumber out asap. I also spoke to the tenant, who was very apologetic but puts it down to not turning taps off properly. There are now 3 very distinct areas of water damage on my ceiling which according to the tenant corelate with his sink, washing machine & bath.
I sent an email to my landlord tonight basically saying come on, enoughs enough, this is no good. Plus photos.
So thats all pants.
Then the guys that own the upstairs flat at the property we own, but rent out, emailed me first thing to say that the small guttering job we'd discussed having done, has now turned into a £700 (first quote anyway) situation where the guy who'd come to see the guttering says that the boarding under it is rotten & will cause damp if we leave it. I said, fine, but I want to see at least 2 other quotes from people we know and trust. I can only imagine how many con men are going about in this weather scaring people about how bad the damage will be if only they dont act.
So yes wednesday, 1/10 max
FVD - I remember you had some good advice on my water damage situation before, can you remind me? Im sorry, I should have actioned it before.
Sorry to be so moany today, & thanks for all the well wishes.

So, just got back from a lovely mini break which was amazing but a few issues occured on the way back. Firstly, a small stone hit my windscreen and smashed right across the middle and then my phone fell out my pocket and broke!
Goes to show, sometimes money saving is out of our control.Mortgage free wannabee 2022 #820 -
Ugh having even more bank trouble and am now worried sick. I'm supposed to have £154 in the bank but I have -£70! How can I have lost so much! My YNAB is totally mucked up! I don't understand how I'm so much down on my available balance.
I had £154 in the bank. I did a clothing order on my friends discount site which came to about £200 in total but was for four people. One of them paid me, the other was stuff I owed her. My Mum still hasn't paid but it's only £35 she owes me.
So part of the order came out. £131 came out, not the full £200 because a few parts of the order aren't going to arrive until later in the month so they only get charged when they ship.
So by that estimation, I should have £22 in the bank and be waiting for my Mum to send £35 which would have me set for the month. Yet somehow, I'm down to -£70. I just don't understand how.
To top it off, next to the transaction it says I have £255! Yet the transaction came out this afternoon and it's telling me I have -£70! I hate you banks!
Edit: to make matters worse I just decided to transfer a load of cash out from my savings account, to my current account, in order to pay my barclaycard bill. The overdraft has swallowed it all up. I now can't pay the bill amount I wanted nor can I withdraw it back to the savings account.
How has this happened. I am just so lost for words. How can I be down over £200.0 -
Oh dear lots of annoyances and worries today
But congrats on the job Ally, and hopefully you will have some other offers as well
Greensalad, can you access a statement for your bank account online, as opposed to just the balance? Or if not, go in and ask for a print out? Hopefully it will all sort itself out. Sorry to hear about your problems too Bob, you certainly don't need that
And Dizzyblnd, that sounds expensive
Not much achieved in the W household today as I looked after baby GD from 8am - 5pm. She was actually pretty good - much better than I expected as I have had the summer 'off' (as Mum is a teacher), and she has been playing up a bit lately, so thought I was in for a day of it! In desperation, I managed to get some sleep last night by simply sleeping on the sofa bed downstairs. Puppy slept all night in his bed. So, tonight I will pull out the sofa bed in case, but try to sleep upstairs, leaving him in the lounge, where he seems happiest. If he wees, it isn't the end of the world as we have hard flooring (and he is minute). And if he starts howling I will simply drag a duvet downstairs and curl up on the sofa bed again!
Today's feeble effort:
*Small spend in Lidls (I am being rubbish at recording my spends for CCL's weekly spend threadbut will try to update tomorrow. I think I have already gone over my target
*Also ordered flowers for my uncle's funeral which is next Wednesday
*Walked to town for free exercise (and zero fuel use) and to entertain baby GD. I got extra exercise too, when she decided part way back that she didn't want to sit in her pushchair or walk, and I had to carry her!
*HM meals, and I stuck to my meal plan, though I did swap round a bit as I had something quite lengthy listed for today, and needed something quick after having baby GD all day. So had Thursday's meal today :rotfl:
*Food waste alert - I found about 40g of chorizo covered in fur in the fridge
*Did some onepoll surveys - I am on nearly £35 now :T Some of the surveys are daft though! Who on earth writes the questions? (I am a bit nerdy about such things as I used to be a researcher, though in a different field)
And that is it, as I have been playing with baby GD all day! Must do better tomorrow! Hope those who have had a trying day today have a better one tomorrow0
