    Morning Frugalistas,
Money saving things I have done so far today:
    *Fed veggies.
*Skinned 2kg of tomatoes to make chutney - just bubbling away on the hob now. Kitchen smells like autumn, though a few wasps have come in to investigate until they were shown my 75p fly-swatter!
*Sterilized free recycled jam jars received from M-i-L.
*Made chicken & mushroom supreme for tonight's dinner with the rubber chicken I divvied up
    yesterday.
*Made tomorrow's packed lunch, using the very last of the rubber chicken.
*Froze 3 containers of the chicken stock I made in the slow cooker yesterday.
*Checked for surveys, but apart from the quick click Toluna polls, I was getting kicked out of everything, so decided to use my time in a more productive way. I'm getting close on Toluna, Onepoll & Ipsos, so hopefully once surveys start appearing again in greater numbers after the bank holiday break, I'll be able to get to cash-in on all three of them.
*Checked our bank account to see if mr f's £40 payment from Onepoll has arrived yet. Nope!
Hoping for a little bit of leisure time later, as I have to go out to a meeting later this evening. Aiming to update my blog, read & cast on jumper I'm going to knit for a present, as I haven't managed to do that yet.
    Think that's everything.
Ratison - If you check in today, I left you a post last night about our new bathroom.
Cheers all, will need to bottle this chutney in 20 mins or so by the looks of things.

Bob - What a nuisance about the alarm going off in the night. Not only is it a disturbed night, it's that worry of not knowing what will be found when you get there. Glad it turned out to be nothing & that mr Bob was ok. Glad you didn't go, as you need to be taking care of the Bobbino.

Yes, DS was back to today and I thought how handsome he looked too - he looks so grown up and is turning into a lovely young man - can't quite believe he's in his 2nd year at senior school it's racing by far too quickly for my liking

I'm being nosey now (again) - what are "Bounts" ?

Hope you're having a good day!

  • Hello everyone!!
Bob - sorry to hear that!! Glad all is ok though :)

Here's what I'm gonna do today:
    - Working till 3.00
    - Have a look around Tess and Co to use voucher I got for being amazing ;)
    - Did bring in £3 for a roast at work today but didn't get a chance to go on my lunch break so it will be a £3 meal deal.
    - Go pick up my mum's tablets
    - Go to mums (having dinner there and watching GBBO!!)
    - Bump items I've put on FB for parents (get 50p for each thing that they sell!! Not a lot but they help me out a lot so I don't mind helping them out)
    - Write a letter to the PIP people
    - Look for a new house to rent (need somewhere bigger and found out yesterday we have a leaking roof!!)
    - Purge emails
    - Check FPL
    - Do a couple of surveys

I think that's about it! I have more that I need to do but theres not enough hours in the day!! Need to start going back to the gym regularly, I'm paying for it!! Also need to do some washing but not at home so a bit hard!!
    Read my diaryHere :)

I'm a tad worried about a cheque payment on my account. I paid in a £50 cheque on Saturday. It showed up on my bank statement on Sunday but set as 1st September (yesterday). I compared my balance on YNAB against my balance on my bank and my bank is exactly £50 down, so I figured it was the cheque. However, my bank account available balance is still £50 down. It shows 'balance' as £150 and 'available balance' as £100. I'm just hoping that although that cheque has been recognised it hasn't been paid into my account just yet... otherwise I'm £50 down :/

    Quick post and run.....

Popped in to reassure you, GreenSalad. I'm a former banker. This is all absolutely 'normal'. The UK banking system is a bit crazy but the way cheques are processed is set in stone.

When you pay in a cheque at the weekend it won't usually have the weekend date on it. This is because bank computers think the banks are 'closed' on weekends so they put a weekday date on those transactions. So don't fret about that.

When you pay in a cheque the available balance will be down. This is because a cheque takes a few days to clear and so that cheque you paid in isn't available until it has cleared. So, again, please don't fret about that. The £50 isn't missing it's just not available yet. It is definitely in your account, though.

In a couple of days the cheque will clear and you're available balance will go up by £50.

If you want the exact dates:

-If your bank account pays you interest the cheque will start to earn interest today.
-On Friday the cheque will clear and you'll be able to spend the money and your online banking should start to make sense again! However, if you take the money out on Friday it can still 'bounce' if the person who wrote it has nothing in their bank account to pay it on Friday. For this reason many people don't spend that money at this stage in case something goes wrong.
-Next Tuesday (8th Sep): the cheque can no longer 'bounce'. The payee has had the money taken out of their account and the money is safely yours to spend.

If anyone wants to see and perhaps bookmark the cheque clearing date chart there's one here. It's NatWest but banking law requires all UK banks to keep to the same schedule. (Link) Chose the day you paid the cheque in on the left and then read across the line to see the fate of your cheque. Or, if that hurts your brain, type the date you paid the cheque into the account into this calculator and it'll tell you what'll happen when. (Link)

Erm, that wasn't a quick post was it?!
