steviebabes, I couldn't find the auction when I looked but if it is a stock photo then like you I would now be seriously worried. Your suggestion about delaying to see how the other auctions pan out is a good one.0

I thought we were not meant to make suggeston that broke Ebays rules, delaying payment, then sending cheques in false names so they can't be cashed must be in breach of some policy or other.
Sending a cheque made out to a username is merely dumb, not breaching rules. I've had several made out to my user name..which always made me think du'h..do they really think I am 'pinkfluffybunnykins' or whatever, I'd love to see my bank managers face if I tried to open an account in a name like that. :rotfl:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Oh, for anyone feeling trigger happy today I just noticed this in the current listings:
WE ALSO HAVE A BUY NOW IN MIND SO EMAIL US AND WE WILL TELL YOU WHAT IT IS SHAPPY BIDDING
Could that be construed as dealing off ebay?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I like the 30 day money back return policy! That's if he's around for 30 days. My delaying tactics are not meant to break any rules, they are just for your peace of mind as the seller looks dodgy. These are things you have to deal with anyway when you are a seller who accepts cheques.0

How close does he live? Could you go and pick it up?

You read the description (or not) and placed a bid.
Bit late to be moaning about lack of PayPal, pay up and live dangerously!!0 -
Some people don't accept paypal as it's not safe for the seller. Dodgy buyers often claim back money saying they have not received items etc and the seller loses out. Also, paypal charges quite a lot of money. You could try to come to some sort of agreement with the seller for both of you to withdraw from the sale on mutual grounds. This is not too difficult but you could end up refunding the listing fees to the seller.Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0

No feedback, stock photo and no paypal...that is beginning to look rather dodgy
When I first listed on Ebay I had no feedback as did every other new Ebayer.
I hadn't heard of Paypal and now that I have I wish I hadn't as their fees are a rip off. I doubt if the seller could be bothered to take an actual photo of their item it would look that much different to the ones found here:-

I've often used stock photos for convenience it doesn't mean I'm a conman."A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0 -
Grade A Reject..it is very rare for a new user to go straight into selling, especially high end goods. Most join ebay to buy a few bits and bobs and then get hooked on selling as well. So it is quite rare to see any real seller with no feedback at all and no history. Stock photos are also a sign that all might not be well, yes I'm sure we've all used them at some point or another but it removes any slight reassurance a buyer might have that seller has the goods.
I would think the amount of people on this forum, that would ever buy from a new seller with a stock photo and no paypal is very small indeed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
