Hey all need some advice,
I have brought an item of Ebay, the complete Royal Rumble Anthology for £75 (incl postage) i only saw it at the last min and bid straight away and won it. They are selling on other websites for £105+ Looking through the payments the seller accepts, they list everything but paypal (they lists 'other' aswell), also the seller has not sold anythin before, im dubious about sending a cheque as £75 is a lot of money to kiss goodbye to if there is a problem, I asked the seller if they had a paypal account, they said 'not yet, just send a cheque' but im worried that he has never sold anything before and he has quite a few items on that are £50+
What do you think i should do? Just send a cheque and risk it?

I would ask what the 'other' methods of payment are. If they are a business trying out ebay they may well take a card payment over the phone.0

Ack, well mr Brooker will no doubt be across in a minute to assure you that a cheque will be perfectly safe, but i cannot echo that.
The reason you got this so cheap is that no experienced buyer would have bid from a newbie with no paypal..however I'm not quit sure where you go now. Obviously you need to pay as otherwise you will get a strike which is damaging, but there is no use pretending that a cheque gives you any protection.
Can you do some more research on the seller, make sure he isn't selling a lot of items at high prices, or maybe do a 192 search to see if he lives where he says he does? I'm sure other users will be along shortly to give some more advice about checking the seller.
Lastly, what postage method is he using? You need it sent special or at least parcel with extra insurance paid as of course you have no comeback on ebay if it fails to arrive.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Good point, they might offer google (very naughty as it isn't allowed)..I'm not sure there is full protection with google checkout but if they do suggest it you might want to contact google and ask them.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. You seem to assume that all those who do not take paypal are crooks?
At least with a cheque you have a real address, so given the choice of a bricks and morter address to send your cheque to, or a hotmail email addy to send your paypal payment to, which is a scammer going to choose? The money, Dave...0 -

They had 6 other items listed when i brought mine, all for £50+
The postage is 'Sellers standard rate'
Hope that helps!!MSE has changed me for the better!!DD1 arrived 15/5/11, ]:money:0 -
you would need ot confirm what method of postage they are using0

Definitely definitely..the seller has no requirement to even send this with a certificate of postage as there is nothing you can do if it doesn't arrive. Usually of course insurance protects the seller, but when paying by cheque it is the buyer that needs that protection.
If seller plans to send it standard mail, then ask if you can pay the extra to upgrade to special.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Looks very dodgy this, he has another identical item on bid now. It has the same library photo as do his other items. I would complete checkout for name an address but not send a cheque and see how agitated he gets, meanwhile study any feedback received. If he threatens a neg keep the email and send a cheque second class made out to his username. This should be enough delaying tactics to check him out.0

steviebabes, I couldn't find the auction when I looked but if it is a stock photo then like you I would now be seriously worried. Your suggestion about delaying to see how the other auctions pan out is a good one.
No feedback, stock photo and no paypal...that is beginning to look rather dodgy, depending on how much the seller is actually selling I might well be prepared to risk a strike and a neg on the off chance this is a definite scam. I don't think I would be willing to chuck my money away.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
