Email from just eat

I'm just writing on here as I got an email from just eat with my full name, full home address saying about £10 credit. Decided to do a dummy form which then asked for address (which was strange) then the next one said card details, bank account number, sort code it wanted - the lot.

Just be careful with what emails come through as it looks to be fraud. I'm just baffled how they got my full name and full address to be honest. I'll not be ordering from them again either way

If you have previously ordered via their website did you have a home delivery?
  • If you have previously ordered with them, then they will have an address for delivery. You also give your name on the order unless of course you gave a fake one.

Sounds like a scam email. I use just eat and have never been asked for these details.

Sort code in particular is a red flag as I don't see why they would want that at all.

Why are you worried about a sort code?

I assume you are too young to have ever used cheques, which show sort code, account number and also have a signature.

No I am old enough to remember and use cheques.

I just don't see why any commercial business (especially just eat) would require a customers sort code. The fact that the email asks for this leads me to think it's not a genuine just eat email and is instead a scammer email.

scam or not, I just thought it was odd to suggest that needing a sort code made it anymore likely to be a scam. If a company wanted to make a payment to a customer then sort code and account number is what they would need, it is the card number that makes this dodgy, as they don't need that if they were just going to transfer money.

Yes I can see what you say. However my approach to scams is if it sounds too good to be true then it is too good to be true.

I find it unlikely just eat want a customers sort code and account number to transfer them £10 for no good reason.

If it as a refund then they would refund to the original card number and that would not need to be requested.

They even put my middle name which I don't ever put. It looked really formal, but then realised it was dodgy when asking for card and bank details. It was some while since I ordered from them but wondered if they had been hacked or something. Just bizarre how they knew my full name

  • I got the same the other day and have Emailed them about it, mainly because if it is a scam, it looks a good one! I will let you know what they say...
