Just wondering,I have bought new curtains for my bedroom but they aren't lined. Can I cut the lining form my old curtains and attach to new ones without much effort? I REALLY can not sew to save my life and wondered if there was an 'idiot proof' other way of doing it?
    Thanks ss

You could sew your new curtains over the top of the old ones for added warmth. I have done this with my patio curtains as that end of the room is always cooler.

I bet one of your family or friends would run a straight line of sewing though the 2 sets for you, it would only take minutes I promise.

What about using velcro to attach the linings? Or, use fabric glue.
  • hello, it is cold here today (in August!) so thought I would join the thread.

I have - bought an extra snuggle blanket to have downstairs, started buying winter jumpers, warm trousers for my 2 year old on Ebay, bought a huge box of candles from Lidls and correspondingly bumper pack of matches.

Need to: get winter coats dry cleaned and mended and stock up on cold/flu supplies (tissues, lemsips and son ). And thinking about those candles, I need to find a cheap source of candle holders/hurricane lamps....

One thing I meant to say--it seems important to me to keep this FUN, to make it a challenge, a personal fight between me & the govt, to stop them getting my money ! - But being poor isnt fun, its miserable. And being cold & poor is VERY miserable, I've been there. So I think its important for us all to set limits and keep it fun, choose some things that really really matter and make the difference between a fun fight and a slide into depression... LOL- totally OT but I had to say it !

Oh Mardatha, I so agree with you, about feeling cold and having little money. It is not nice at all. I thank God we are not in the same financial situation now as years ago, but it was tough. I was bringing up my children alone, with very little money, and many times there was no money to buy coal to heat the home, and it was so hard going. We tried to keep a sense of humour as well, and even now the children(adults) will say remember Mum the time when.......... If one of the children needed shoes it was usually the hardest time. I was very careful with our budget, and I do understand other people in the same boat.
Do a little kindness every day.;)

My OH tends to sit on his bum & whine..."the council should do that"..."the govt shoud do that"..."we shouldnt have to do that ".... but I just get on and do it , its quicker by far than whining. And it seems to be the same in here--most of us are ladies, trying to train our men. LOL :) God knows how the West was won. By the wimmen, probly !
