I'm working on making a lovely fluffy throw that I can snuggle up under with the fiance this winter. Some nights it has been cold enough we've put the heating on, but for the most part with a film and a snuggle we've not really noticed it. :)

TRYING, that's GREAT ty. We have a coal stove and its big as well, and he has to carry shovelfuls in once a day, it takes 3 at a time. This is a great idea !

trying v trying you are using plastic carrier bags? If so then you are putting poisonous fumes into the air

burning plastic also forms sticky blobs that can stick to your chimney and eventually cause a fire in the chimney

sitting here on sofa with primark fleece pj's on and fleece dressing gown made me think of things that need doing before winter and, of course, that means reading this thread again :)

cold and wet from meeting dd at station with a brolly as she didnt take one this morning because it was sunny:rolleyes: but warming up nicely now.

must get some more of these pj's, anyone know if they have them in stock yet?

Dont you just love the british summer!

Obviously Dundee being further north than Kent gets the colder weather sooner. :D I am actually hoping for a nice frosty winter for a change instead of the damp wet ones we have had recently .Ther is nothing nicer than being wrapped up in your PJs with a fleecy dressing gown on watching the t.v.:j Knitting wool at the ready, and a nice film to watch and snooze through in the afternoon. It doesn't take a lot to keep this old biddy happy. I'm a cheap date :rotfl: Cuppa tea and a couple of digestives and I'm anyones ;)

    Hi Jackie O

How are you feeling??? Alright hopefully.

i agreeI cant wait to have a nice frosty winter or even snow (fingers crossed) but in Wales the wet one is more realistic me thinks.

Me and little one regualrly have days where we sit cuddled up in our pyjamas, under a fleecy blanket, with a cup of hot chocolate - love it. Theres nothign nicer i dont think.

I use my carrier bags for fuelling the fire. I can't use fill it using the coal hod thing that hubby loves so much, so I just fill a carrier bag with coal from the bunker, and fling it straight in the fire. By the way, its a deep multi fuel stove that we've got, so it does take a bit of filling.

I have a suspicion here that one cant burn plastic bags - as in its physically possible to do so - but in the process various nasty chemicals are let loose into the air. Someone more environmentally knowledgeable than me might know for sure whether its not advisable - but I wouldnt do it myself.

    edit: i was right. See:
