Am sitting here hand hemming my IKEA fleeces that I bought on Saturday - too lazy to dig out the sewing machine! (In any case, the machine might pucker up the fleece a bit because of its texture, so probably the best bet anyway). Started off by folding the hem over and glue-sticking it - easier than fiddling with pins. I often use a glue stick for setting up an embroidery, especially when appliqueing little bits on (I use all sorts in my creations - bits of plastic bags, lemon nets, strips of old clothes etc, as well as conventional threads).
I'm just using a running stitch, as it will lie flat.
Agree with others - it was cold last night. I put on the mid-season quilt (and have just washed the summer weight one) - but I guess it won't be long until the two are needed together. Even had a hot water bottle - which the cat found, and lay on the quilt right over the hottie, then later in the night I found her IN the bed!!
A few weeks ago I had a gas fire fitted, but am trying not to have to switch it on just yet (or the CH), so am wearing more layers. Not yet on to the thermal vest but that will come! The other thing I got was some warmer curtains, so need to put them up ASAP. Along with the fleece inners they should make a difference.
To be honest the house did stay quite warm last winter, but because my DH (with severe dementia) was still here, I kept the heating on quite high (and did the grin and bear it when the bills came in - and thank goodness for the heating allowance, it did help!) Now he is permanently in a specialist dementia nursing home, I can practise my economies with no worries.Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0 -
I bought one of those long pillows (like a sausage) from Lidl for £9.99 and I find it lovely and warm. I might get another one for the other side and with the memory foam topper I got from Aldi, I'm ready for cold winter nights.0

"Earlier this year someone posted a link for a heater that was efficient & only costs 1p per min to use."
Not sure if it was this one but seem to remember halogen heater. I bought the one shown and it is great.

I need to get curtain rail holders above my large drafty dining room and kitchen window. I cannot use a drill to save my life, so will have to get someone in to do it,would I be better getting the wood myself, what wood will be suitable? and who should I get to do it, a local handy man, joiner, I really am a novice at anything DIY or getting in trades men. Any suggestions appreciated0

Has anyone had a chance to put one of the halogen heaters on an electric monitor to see roughly how much they cost per hour?
Ought to really ask this on the utilities board but just wondered if anyone here has monitored it.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

Went out for a meal with a friend tonight on the way back home near my flat we looked in a skip and there was some of those large bolster cushions belonging to a settee sitting there, so I said to my friend grab em and we scarpered up the road and when i got home Ive had a good look at them, there quite large so I now have 3 large door draughtproofers and all for nothing .....we looked a right site running down the street laughing with the cushions under our arms I blame the Baileys myself lol

Not sure because it will all depend on what tariff you're on.
If you have a look at the hygeinesupples site linked to in your post and go to their clearance section you will see that they have one of those 1.200w heaters on sale for £16 at the moment0
