Do tea lights add much to the warmth of a room? I guess they would! could put a load in my mantal piece, use up some of my jam jar stash.. oooh project lol
If it doesn't work it will 'feel' cosey at least
We lit 3 last night, I went out of the room to do some stuff inthe kitchen and when I returned I said to OH that it felt warmer in the living room.Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -
Well, I've not had a lot of time for preparing for winter lately as I've been decluttering the place. I am, however, still trying to make it so we don't put the heating on until we absolutely have to. So, looking at my list I still need to:
Make soups that I can take to work and defrost (so much nicer than a cup soup)
Keep finding warmer clothing - particularly trousers (so I'll be having a look in Mountain Warehouse - thanks for the tip!)
Learn to drive so I'm not relying on public transport in rainy/windy weather.
Go through my socks, turn hole-y ones into draught excluders and buy some replacements.

i'm not doing too bad with my winter preps and have just added another sack of dog food to this list of things to get in over the next couple of month
Have got most storecupboard items and have started stocking up on bottled water
Done a little bit of foraging this morning and got some blackberries to turn into something. Also while looking for recipes decided to do some preserving ready for winter some chutney, beetroot relish and picallili over the next few days.

I think candles warm a room. Maybe its just the lovely glowing effect but they seem to.
Just bought in my first stock of tea - lights while Asda is doing their 100 packs for 2 for £3.
Will keep adding to the stock as we love these to brighten the long winter evenings. Light up at 4 is a little cosy tradition we have each day.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

I love the idea of this and when I went to a friend's house not so long ago and she had candles all round the place we all said how lovely it was
BUT
we live in a thatched cottage. DH gets paranoid if I light candles anywhere but in the inglenook - which kind of defeats the object0 -

Now that I have them in stock I will use them but I'm not buying any more.0 -
i'm so ashamed *bows her head* my daughter asked me to turn the heating on this morning!
obviously i'm doing something wrong, i didn't expect that for a few months yet
normally she just puts on her booties or another layer... hmmm i home educate her maybe i should do a carbon footprint exercise with her. i got her to stop leaving things switched on by telling her that wasting energy hurts the world and that makes the penguins cry (i know, i have no shame, but it worked!) :rotfl:0 -
Makes the penguins cry, poor poor girl, I take it she's seen Happy Feet then? That actually did make my boys think long and hard about things. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

I use about 4 small ones for an evening. When I was in a flat with economy 7 white meeter heating i used about 20 LOL. It certainly does increase the heat. I got about 200 in a bag in Ikea for a couple of pounds so it's pretty cheap. I suppose though it depends on where you get the tea lights from?Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790
