I was very pleased with the double-up offer at Tesco's at the moment - never done it before. I had £25 in vouchers so exchanged for £20 in pets and £30 in homeware and stocked up on cat food (after the earlier post about not going out for cat food that seemed like a good plan!) and bought some lovely new fluffy towels to replace the stained and threadbare ones I shiver in after a shower - and all FREE!!!!!! £50 in goods exchanged for a few bits of paper, none of which had the Queen's head on them :j:j
As you can see, it doesn't take much to cheer me up!0 -

Hiya, im from Blaenavon, a vallys girl lol, where are you from?
Went to Asda today, flour still on offer so got a couple more. Dreaded car is outside being looked at by son and partner, cant find out where dreaded noise is coming from, so looks like it will have to go into garage:(
Going to local firm later to pick up some pallets to use to make a chicken coop through the winter ready for next year.
Weather permitting (we have actually had sun today!) will be going up on the mountain tomorrow to pick some more wimberrys to freeze for winter.
As i am writting this can hear banging from outside. i hope i have a car left toooo take to the garage!!0 -

hello there stranger, thanks for the tip, I'll have to have a look in Sainsburys as the boys could do with new ones. I've frozen other herbs like that too, and garlic just minced it up and it's the same as those tubes you can buy.
I was so unprepared last year, we'd moved house in the autumn, were still unpacking and didn't even have curtains up until the snow had already started. I'm pleased we own a 4x4 or I wouldn't have even got them then! This year I must try harder! We did when we bought curtains get fleecey type blankets (£3.99 in Lakeland) for everyone. DP said 'what you buying them for we ain't grannies' well I tell you what he used them even more than me!!! This thread has just reminded me that somewhere in this house is a credit note worth about £50 for Lakeland, I must try to find it, not seen it for months
We do have 3 lizards who cost us to heat/light tanks for, they do tend to keep the dining area warm and if the house temperature is really low the lamp usage goes huge! I haven't a clue if it's possible to insulate them in any way.....but will look into it. I don't use lights downstairs until they are asleep in winter as they have 6 bulbs between the tanks.
We do need new bulbs for a lot of the light fittings but they are those little halogen pencil size bulbs, G4 or G9 I think, don't think they do energy saving ones.
I've got the big duvet under the bed, that had been laundered before it was put away. The boys now like sleeping bags on their beds so the caravan ones will come out to use in addition to their normal bedding as they aren't used over winter.
I'll keep popping in, pinching ideas but keep up the fab work everyone
I MUST REMEMBER WELLIES FOR THE KIDS BEFORE THEY SELL OUT!!!!One day I might be more organised...........

Went to IK*A in Bristol this afternoon and bought 4 of the cheap fleeces (99p each as far as I remember).
Overheard someone else discussing using them as curtains - ? someone else from here? - or is the idea floating around generally? IF I was standing near another MSEer, I'm sorry I was too shy to say hello!
The four will do as inner layers for the two front windows, upstairs and down, and if I'm happy wih them I may go back and get more for the back of the house. (Would need to seam some together for the sliding patio doors at the back end of the lounge).
Hadn't realised that the cheap fleeces are blue, but as it's quite a pleasant baby blue I thnk it's OK. They do have off-white ones also, in the same size, but they cost 2 or 3 times as much, so I decided blue was fine. In any case, the dearer ones have a cut-out decoration along the edge, which may not be so good for curtains.Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0 -
Do tea lights add much to the warmth of a room? I guess they would! could put a load in my mantal piece, use up some of my jam jar stash.. oooh project lol
