DH has spent all spare time in last few weeks chopping logs for winter, and I'm freezing peas and kidney beans. Strung up the garlic and will be doing the onions when they are ready. Hot water bottles are 1.99 in Home Bargains.

Does anyone know where to buy cheap hot water bottle covers, please. Or should I just make a couple?

I crocheted a couple just following the shape but there are probably some free patterns on ravelry for knitting. They came out quite pretty:)

OK - you've talked me into it. Will sew from a fleece. Crocheting comes out in strange shapes, and would have to buy wool for knitting some so will have a firtle round the loft for some soft fabric. Thanks.

Thanks a mill for the info muffin man. The phone charger bit is just for emergencies if there was a power cut - luckily they're quite rare where I live. We don't have the shops you mentioned though but am sure I'll find what I need somewhere, will start looking out for things like that.

I got my emergency phone charger (it has multiple attachments for each different kind of phone) from Millets so it might be worth checking (just checked, and this is similar). It only gives enough charge for a few minutes of conversation and enough for the odd sms to be sent/received, but that is all you need in an emergency.

Nothing done today on the winter preparation front, unless you count batch cooking some ready meals for the cold nights you just want something hot. I have to sort out my baking cupboard as there are quite a few things I need to move. I asked my Mum to bring back some sticks of candy rock from her holiday and I'm going to keep them for emergency sugar fixes and pick me ups. :)

Thanks KitchenBunny, will check Millets next time I'm in town. You've done far more than I have, I must do some batch cooking too. :)

I mostly use hot water from the tap so don't need a cover. When I am using a hot water bottle cover I just wrap them in a pillow case or two.
