£9 for "Stovesse" Is that smokeless - cant remember

It just shows how difficult it is to budget in different areas - I also hate that supermarkets charge different prices in their shops for the same items (I mean the same name supermarket but in a different town)
  • yes, everything is more expensive over here - supermarket-wise we've only have a Tesco and that is a 70 mile round trip, otherwise it's just the wee co-op. We now have Lidls and Aldi in the same place, but I haven't visited them yet - lidl's has been there a while actually. On the plus side we don't have the same temptations! Not really having shops to browse around

    At least fleece washes well,

I bought a fleece blanket from Wilkos a coupla years agofor £4 - before they went all posh last year and started to charge £20 for throws.. It is too big to fit in our washing machine and I have to break my back trying to wash it in the bath which is not only really difficult it never seems to be really clean. I have thought about going to a laundrette - which is both far away and expensive but it apparently cannot be dried in a dryer so would have to bring it back wet. It was nice and soft and fluffy but after one wash it went flat and pilly.Would be interested to know how other people wash their fleeces etc

Oh, can I have a moan, please???? I'm so fed up with this winter and here in Manchester we haven't had it nearly as hard as you Scottish folks! I have SAD which doesn't help. I don't have a car so I have to go everywhere on foot or on my bike, plus walking my dogs 3 times a day .... roll on summer when we can just go out without five extra layers!! Even the golden anemones that are usually the first flowers out aren't peeping above ground yet.

However thanks to this thread I did get my bum into gear and put up a lined curtain at the bathroom window so at least we can have a shower without shivering .....

I promise not to post moaning about the heat if we get a heatwave this summer :rotfl:

I've just been informed that our local grain merchant/agricultural store is now selling coal in 25kg bags. Haven't got a price for it yet but will be interesting to see if it's any cheaper than the local coal merchants. I'm due an order of feeding in a couple of weeks time, will find out if it's worth stockpiling for next winter as 25kg bags would be handy for piling into the garage.

My fleeces are lightweights, so fit in my machine and dry really quickly out on the rope. Haven't washed the slanket yet, as it's a lot bigger and I've no place to hang it if it can't go out on the line.

When I stocked up last summer I paid £7 per 25kg bag and I think it went up to approx £8+ winter price. We also burn any old wood and logs we can lay our hands on:p

So is 25kg the normal size that the coalman brings? It doesn't say on my invoice, just 2 bags, and a bag can mean anything.

Coalman usually delivers in 50kg open sacks here, which cost £11.50 per bag for the cheapest grade 'doubles'. Still waiting to hear the price for the agri-merchant 25kg bags, but if it's less than £5.75 then it's a saving.

Ah yes,, that would be right as my 2 bags cost just under £24. Thanks
