Does the fewer posts the last few days mean we're all finally ready for winter?
Iv lined my bedroom curtains today with 2 fleece blankets & velcro, was super easy to do & im sure it will help to keep the room warm, can get really cold in there in the winter.0 -
Well - pretty much as I'll ever be:
- the loft now looks like Duvet City - as I've got so much insulation up there now (still not figured out a way to deal with that loft hatch - as its got the loft ladder fixed to the back of it). Thankfully the hatch is over the landing, rather than over a room.
- all fanheaters replaced with halogen heaters
- summer duvet underneath bottom sheet on bed
- spare hairdryer beside bed - for warming-up sheets and any cold bits of my anatomy before getting in
- bought a spare fleece dressing gown
- got warm Ugg-boot style slippers
- got loads of throws and shawls
- bought pair of warm type thermal gloves (they look waterproof too?) - for wet days - as I got fed-up with my leather gloves chilling my hands when they get wet (so will just keep them for smarter wear purposes now).
So - pretty much sorted. Just waiting to see if its possible to make a lapquilt out of an old duvet (ie if it can be done without feathers going everywhere).0 -

We had a very draughty loft hatch, which also has a ladder attached to it.We stopped the draughts by buying one of those foil encased loft insulation rolls. They cost about £12 each. We just stood it up around the inside edges of the loft hatch and it's totally stopped any draughts. It stays in place no matter how many times you open the loft.It never budges, you just pull the edge to one side when you get in and put it back on your way out.Simple but effective.0 -
Ceridwen we had the same problem and the loft hatch is smack bang above the boys beds *3 storey house howling wind!*
I bought some of the stick on velcro and made a little removable cover, like a little blind that covers up all the draughts and keeps the wind from whistling a bit it comes of in the summer and as the velcro strip is white you can't see it
