I have no idea about the cost differences, but you're not just drying your clothes... you're also heating your house as you say.
I've never had an Aga or seen a 'real' one to be fair, but I guess there are other ways to use that low heat too like warming plates/drying herbs.....
Couldn't get that much out of a tumble dryer
I immediately thought of meringues--well, I would think of food first wouldn't I--& visions of a slow-cooker approach to bulk cooking things like casseroles & chillies to be portioned up & frozen for a later date. Likewise if it's on day time a gloriously creamy rice pud for tea ....*wipes dribble from chin & keyboard*
If you are inclined to the crafty side [think Daft Aider from Star Wars:cool2: ] perhaps you could put your talents to creating marvellous scupltures with flour dough or some such, to stockplie on gifts throughout the year? Perhaps make them now & decorate later..maybe worth asking on the various craft threads you'll find over on Special Occasions...
I like the idea of putting in pans of water to heat up too..be really useful for hot water bottles & foot soaks......but unfortunately I can only think aloud as I don't have one of these myself.Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Thanks all
I have a big kettle on the warming plate at the moment. I haven't been cooking on it recently because then I'd have to turn it up and I'm not sure if heating it up and keeping it high for half an hour is more economical than putting the fan oven on for 20 mins. When I remember though I do dry food out in it and I think I might put some "slow cooker" food in it in a bit for tea later.
I have mind blank though which is why I can never think of things to do with it! It does keep the chill off the house even on very low which is great. You can definitely tell when you come inside. And it's great for keeping cups of coffee warm and your bottom when it's dampFluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!
SPC2 #571 - trying to get as much as possible0 -
We finally had our cavity wall insulation done this week -
(I guess part of my generated heat was the heavy duty cleaning I was doing as DD2 had taken her nappy off before her nap and made poo art on the wall which I didn't find til she woke up    ) (I actually took a piccy to embarrass her later on)
Its not been a good day
I bet it has'nt.I'm still recovering from when my eldest did that and she's 36 now.Scarred me for life._pale_0 -

My DD2 did that too. Luckily she only did it about three times, but boy does it stink . She smeared one lot all over her bedside table, then climbed on to it and smeared loads on to the window, then got down and trotted across the room (bearing in mind she had it all over her feet so it was on the carpet too ) and started smearing it all over the mirrored wardrobe doors :eek::eek:. Once in the bathroom and once in the living room and that was that phase over with .
:rotfl::rotfl:Lucky I can laugh about it now.0 -

Arghhh this brought back memories of when I left the (then 7 month old) twins naked on the lovely Greek rug that I had lovingly struggled to carry all the way back to the UK the previous year when I was backpacking.
I left them for a couple of minutes and on my return found a serious piece of finger/wall/floor/body art. I sat down on the floor, cried for a little while, then packed the twins into the bath, the rug into several plastic bags and into the rubbish bin.
Ah, babies huh, who'd have them!
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Everyone on here is fantastic!:j I have noted down all the tips I could find on this thread and plan to put everything into action ASAP!
I have just moved into my first flat with BF and we are keen to save money where we can so what we save we can use for Christmas and treats at other times of the year.
Favourite tip - duvet on top of the mattress but under the sheet - GENIUS!!

But then again, who ever washed a mattress?0 -
I was seriously thinking of trying this, until I read this:

its going to sound really terrible now but what is the best way to wash the duvets and pillows. I have never actually washed the duvet or pillows - we only ever wash the covers. We usually end up buying more pillows if they look really grubby but cant keep doing thisMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19
