I take my duvets to the launderette but I have to say it's not every 6 months, more like once a year
Pillows I do in the WM at home in the summer.:)Do more of what makes you happy:)0 -
I expect hanging them on the washing line over night to get frosted in the winter would kill things off."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

Freezing things doesn't kill anything.0

I've recently discovered that I am allergic to dust mites and what they leave behind  . I've always washed bedding at 60. I've also got covers on my mattresses and pillows and no way will I put a duvet under the sheets. I wash my duvets when I change them e.g. 4.5 to 9 tog.
I'm able to wash them in my washing machine but can't dry them in the tumble dryer so put them out to dry on the line weather permitting. Before I used to take them to the laundrette, which offered a service wash and dry. I wash pillows as well.Books - the original virtual reality.

I'm ashamed to say that I never have my duvet's long enough for them to need washed.I tend to buy a new one every year at the start of winter. It's just a thing I have,I love new bedding.
The duvet I've just bought is supposed to be impenetreble to dust mites and is for allergy sufferers. It's very soft and loose but realy light and warm.
It's my one little indulgence so I don't think It's too bad.0 -
freezing kills some things, spider plants for example.
it surely must kill some mites and that type of thing surely? isnt that why they thrive in our centrally heated homes but not in the cold bedrooms of the past?"The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0 -
Thanks - perhaps if the sun appears in the next few days i will try to get them washed and dried on the line.Me, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Well you get told to put pillows in the freezer to kill things. I have one of those fleecy liners under the sheet...as well as a fleecy electric blanket! Then duvet and a quilt over the topFluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!

dunno about freezing the bugs but isnt' hanging them out in sunshine supposed to kill off germs and stuff? something to do with the UV light?"The Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed" - Ghandi0

So why are we all spending a fortune on nice duvet covers ? I change my pillows every year but I dont wash duvets. In the old days they can't have done that --they were all feathers. Maybe hanging over the line on a nice hot summer (hollow laugh) day would be enough. if we ever got one.0
