  • Hi Quasar

You are doing so well and so inspiring in your determination to keep the heat off. Thats a good idea about the fleeces I must try that.

BTW is it warm where you live at the moment as it's 11 C in Belfast now.

    Many thanks

No it's cold here in London also. I was out of the house at 6am this morning for a 7am start on a transport survey, and I had a light jumper on with a fleecy jacket on. Sunny all day but temperature rather crisp. At home I've been a bit cold because my flat has enornous wall to wall windows, all facing north. But with fleecy socks etc, and a flask of hot lemon water to sip from now and then, tonight I'm toasty. :D

There are lots of ways to reduce energy consumption. Some may take some getting used to, but they are well worthwhile, especially in the present economic climate (very chilly too :o).

    PS - How's your son? :)

Currently my temp indicator is showing between 18-21 degrees and saying 'Ideal'. But it sure don't feel 'ideal' - brrrr. On the other hand, I am sitting here in a short-sleeved t-shirt. Outside I can hear the wind howling and the rain is banging on the windows (actually sounds like hailstones  though I'm sure it can't be!). I am more determined than ever that the c/h will stay off until the 1st Nov. I think it's HEARING the wind and rain that's making me feel much colder than the temp indicator is showing.

We got back from holiday (Scotland) on Saturday evening. Normally when we return at the end of September, we would have come straight in and put the gas fire on - and that would have signalled the beginning of 'Autumn' for me. However I did notice, this time, that the house didn't even feel cold so we weren't even tempted to put the electric fire on for 10 minutes. This house is so well insulated (when compared with our old flat) that we've never actually used the electric fire - though we sometimes put the 'living flame' effect on just to give the appearance of warmth - especially around Christmas time.

I've got a fleece throw on each sofa AND I've used one this evening while watching Corrie. Considering getting the warmer duvet out of the blanket box next weekend - the thin one has only been back on the bed for a couple of weeks (only use a duvet cover during the summer months!). Come Dec/Jan/Feb I join both duvets together - though that can sometimes feel a bit 'stifling'! NEVER have the c/h on upstairs as neither of us can stand a heated bedroom and the warm air rises up the stairs anyway cos the Living Room is open-plan.

Olliebeak, I know what you mean about heated bedrooms. I don't like a hot bedroom either as it gives me a headache when I get up. I much prefer a cool temperature and putting an extra fleece on the duvet. In fact, I prefer a coolt temperature everywhere as it's less dehydrating - and I'm a stickler for drimking lots of fluids and keeping well hydrated, as it prevents lots of minor health annoyances.

You're only just down the road from me and my outside temp indicator is saying 14 degrees. I'm quite warm at the moment but then I'm snuggled up in a dressing gown and I'm reaching that age where I'm beginning to have 'power surges'. :D

My house has been max 15degrees daytime for the last week or so. Down to 6 at night but that doesn't matter as bed is warm. As long as you don't sit still for too long it's bearable ( with woolly socks and the rest) I had visitors overnight at the weekend and had to put the heat on ( I couldn't expect them to be as masochistic as me) and for 2 days gloried in the all-round warmth, it was wonderful. But back to trying to get used to it.now. I do actually think that 15 is about as low as can be reasonably tolerated, specially in a damp as well as cold house - it's a bit miserable sitting huddled on the sofa wrapped in fleeces trying to pluck up courage to unwrap and go for a wee! It makes me feel a bit stiff too, and strangely stops me from being as active as I'd like to be in the evenings. I wouldn't be able to concentrate for longer than an hour or so either so I don't reckon that's unusual Booklover.

I do hope this doesn't turn into a 'how cold can we go' competition though, that could be dangerous, but you pose a really interesting question that I was wondering about myself.
