  • It's really about letting go of something that was valuable to me, sometimes it took a lot of saving pennies to get these precious things.. It's the memory. I guess it's time to let them go, make space for the new.
  • Thanks bsod. I need you to come round for a declutter consultation, lol

    there wouldn't be much consultation

cd's maybe rip them to mp3 using media player, the rest would be off to keep the worms company, you'll be doing whoever clears up after you a favour

everything plays mp3's (music), and mp4s (video) nowadays, tv's, set top boxes, mobile phone, mp3/4 players, laptops, desktops, tablets.

  • Thanks, I need to be brought up to date! lol.

While I'm on the case, I have a desktop computer and screen sat in my bedroom. It suddenly went slow and it was around the time I got the laptop, so I just started using the laptop, but otherwise I expect I could have solved the problem as it was only about 4 years old.

If I were to dispose of the computer I'd need to know how to do it, securely and according to all the environmental rules now. I'd need to know how to either remove any data I have on it or damage it so it can't be accessed? I don't think there's anything private on there but there might be...old CV's with addresses on, I know my mum used to do her online banking on it years ago though that's through the bank's website...

there are ways of wiping it, but it's easier just to remove and keep the hard disk, and maybe reuse it for some of your music

but ... if it's only 4 years old, re-install the operating system and it will run like new. what is the machine and operating system (vista or windows7?)

Your mum may have saved the usernames and passwords for the bank account in a clear text document (i.e a text document without a password).

I'd remove the drive from the PC connect it to your laptop via a USB connector and thoroughly wipe the drive.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

I think it might have been vista. It's also about 7 years old now, it was 4 years old when it suddenly went slow and I switched to the laptop (out of laziness, always thinking I'd sort it but life took over and it just sat in the bedroom all this time)

Can someone like me do that? lol.

How to remove the drive from the PC?

How to connect to the laptop?

What is a USB connector for this? What do I ask for if I go and buy it?

Appreciate the education here, lol. :-)
