Carrier bags 5p

  • So, for those millions of us who previously used the bags to line our kitchen bins, what are we going to use now without resorting to buying liners?

I have a collection of sacks from charity door drops but these are too big for my small peddle bin.

I sometimes buy potatoes in 12.5kg bags but most other fruit/veg is either loose, in nets or clingfilm. Does anybody have any smart ideas?
  • Tesco have free bags for life this week so I'm stocking up
  • Yes I did get a bag for life in Tesco today. Plus getting reminded at the check out if this bag for life fails then Tesco will replace it. This is something I did not know. I did however notice at the self service checkout, all the carrier bags have been removed.

I guess the 'greenest' way would be not to use liners - but then you'd probably have to waste hot water cleaning your mucky bin :D

If you buy a newspaper (or have 'freebies' thrust upon you) why not line your pedal bin with a couple of sheets. Or just stick with the charity bags but cut them down to size.

Ocado are charging 5p per bag used and not opt out, but will refund 5p for every bag returned. Cost neutral.

  • Found it quite funny that carrier bags divide opinion!!

I think it is a good idea, as many people just throw the bags away after use. I am one of the people that when I do get bags (when I've left my trolly or bags for life at home) I use them as bin liners. I have a massive stock though that can be used for a while before I buy bin liners.

I have in the past though had a "bag for my bags" and when trying to get one out it has turned into confetti on me!!
