Private parking ticket (invoice)

Hi everyone, I parked in a permit holders bay with no permit on Tuesday at Northumbria University and subsequently issued with a 'civil parking notice' now at the time only 5 bays out of a possible 20 were used so I wasn't blocking a permit holder from using the bay. Also they incurred no financial loss with me parking there.
What's the deal? I know these are invoices and not tickets, is it right to appeal or just ignore, however appealing would reveal that I was the driver something they need to prove. I'm thinking the latter, or should I just send them a cheque for £3.50 the cost of local authority parking in Newcastle for 4 hours.
The firm is Car parking partnership & it's £40 if paid in 14 days or £80 otherwise but I ain't paying that no siree

In which case you'll need to read and digest the NEWBIES FAQ sticky near the top of the forum thread list, one page back from here. At this stage you only need to read post #1, with reference to post #2 for the list of acronyms if there's one you don't recognise.
As you go through the process of your PCN, the sticky will be your ongoing guide, but we're here to advise alongside it.Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Windscreen ticket? If yes then wait for the postal notice to keeper. (Unless you're not the RK of the vehicle, e.g. it's a lease or hire car).
All covered in the NEWBIES thread.
CPP - is this them? http://www.carparkingpartnership.co.uk/
Their website says they are BPA AOS members, and they are listed as AOS members under Liberty Printers (AR & RF Reddin) Ltd T/A Liberty Services and The Car Parking Partnership.

This means POPLA if they reject the keeper's appeal ... or rather Ombudsman Services once it takes over.0 -
Is nobody going to challenge the fact that he/she blatantly parked where he shouldnt but justified it with "but only x out of x spaces were used so I can!" What about all those people that actually DO buy permits? Or should everyone refuse to buy permits because you can park where you like anyway! Get a ticket? Lets not worry about the reason, we'll just go and ask those "nice" people on MSE to help us get away with it!
I have said before - when charges are made unfairly - Fair Play - they should be challenged! But some people blatantly take the P and nobody seems to bat an eyelid!0 -
No-one in this forum would want to challenge the circs, obviously! This forum isn't for sermons/pulpit bashersNotBothered wrote: »Is nobody going to challenge the fact that he/she blatantly parked where he shouldn't....

Are you going to ask the OP @NotBothered, or just question forum regulars? Let us know how you get on.

It would be fair if the invoice was for between £15-£20, not trying to rob someone of £40 or £80.0
-
Was not the figure of £18 quoted as the true cost of a parking charge, DVLA, admin etc.0

The question was to everyone - as in Is ANYBODY going to ask the question on why he parked there?? And you will know how I got on - you are reading the forum - or do you want me to re-post every reply I get? not sure what your point is here? I think I have made my question clear but just in case I haven't I will try to rephrase it!
"Why are forum regulars assisting somebody who refused to buy a permit but felt that he could take advantage of the same privileges that a permit provides"?
It is people like this that make it possible for Parking companies to exist!0 -
And how much is a permit - surely that is the true cost in this case? Plus the normal admin fees for chasing abusers, obviously!0
