    Hi Friends,
Late post from me as today has been spent 1) Stressing about the dentist 2) Being massively drilled at the dentist 3) Recovering from the denstist. Stage 3 is still underway! Thankfully we do have an NHS dentist. (A huge well done for persisting with this, Greensalad, so glad you've managed to find one). When we moved here in 2002, I read in the local paper that all the local practices were full, so we decided to stay with our dentist at the University in our nearest big city. Today hasn't been money saving as I've had all the initial work done for a big crown on a back tooth, but the whole thing will be £203......probably half what a private dentist would charge. Paid half today, will pay the rest next time. Put it on my credit card to maximise John Lewis points while I think what is the best way to pay for it.
    Other money saving bits today:
*Dentist parking is only free for an hour which didn't help us today, so we waited as long as possible in the car park before putting our money in, which knocked it down a little.
*Felt really sore & sorry for myself on the way home, so mr f took me to Waitrose for free coffees & a cherry scone. He treated me to a bottle of cider (for its anaesthetic qualities?) & I picked up a free Waitrose weekend paper which looks to have some good recipes in it.
*Checked the reduced items fridge. Late afternoon is the best time at our Waitrose because it seems to be when the butcher & fresh fish counter staff bag up the bargains. Good haul today: A large pork shoulder for £3.35, quite a big bag of beef skirt for £3.15 & bag of lamb neck fillets for £1.50. The last two items will be great in the slow cooker.
That's my list for today, but I'll be knitting more sock later, doing the meal plans for next week, BBQ meal plan for tomorrow & writing shopping list.
Have a lovely Friday night, all,
    f xx

Dawn have you tried crate training him? Then he could sleep in the crate in your bedroom to begin with.

A big step for me today. I have been to a new hairdresser. For years I have been paying £65 to have my hair cut and coloured which I cant afford. I did once try another hairdresser but it was a disaster. After asking around I tried someone near work today and she has made a great job for £40. It probably sounds silly to some but I am so pleased with this and I have made another appointment. The other £25 in my budget has been swallowed up by all sorts of things but hey ho.

I have filled in an application form for free prescriptions for DS on the low income scheme.

Need to update my spreadsheets but will leave that until tomorrow.

  • [STRIKE]:) Check banking
    :) Update budget[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:) 15 mins housework and declutter[/STRIKE] Did more than this again. Cleaned right through downstairs - I only noticed how bad it had been once I'd cleaned and decluttered
    [STRIKE]:) Appointment in town later[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:) Pay in cheque and money box funds[/STRIKE] Paid them straight off the CC - I'm thrilled that I have less than £30 to find to pay it off :j:j:j
[STRIKE]:) Meal plan for next week, including packed lunches[/STRIKE]
:) Check surveys Haven't done any for a few days now
:) Read at least 3 chapters of my book[STRIKE]
:) Watch DVD's with the kids later
    [/STRIKE] Home - very good

Another busy one but I am thrilled to be under £30 left to pay off the CC. It hasn't taken as long as I thought (thankfully) and I am determined to keep the momentum going.
DNMS I've kitted both kids out in primary uniform and PE kit for £143. And I'm hoping it won't get too much more expensive once DD goes to comp next year. Certainly won't be approaching £400+
greensalad you must be buzzing - you've had a brilliant day. Fab news about the dentist :T
    ally hope you're ok

As I'm enjoying my money saving stuff, I've decided to see if it's worth bringing back the weekly spend challenge. It was regular on here a few years ago, and I loved following it (stalker that I am). I've posted in the challenges section - if anyone would like to come and get involved, please do.

Right - I'm settling down with my vodka, mango and melon smoothie. Cheers!

Bob - you said you'd wondered where I'd been - did you think I'd been knocked off my bike?!!
To be honest, I've never been much of a one for 'joining in', & seem always to loiter on the edge. Initially, it took me ages to pluck up the courage to post at all, & then for some unknown reason I stopped.

Well, I hoped nothing that dramatic :eek: but you know, you get used to hearing people's 'voices' on the thread. And I had wondered after you. I know what you mean though. Daily posting isn't for everyone.
