Hair removal - intimate areas!

I hope this isn't tmi but I like to be hairfree!

I use an epilator on legs and shaver on underarms, but the intimate areas are more of a problem!!

For many years I have used Nair or Veet, but I am getting concerned about continued use on my ageing and thinning skin (can cause pain and irritation, however carefully its applied and timed)

Its also quite expensive so I was thinking of investing in one of these

Has anyone tried one?
Got any tips comments or observations?

Oh....and "au naturelle" is not an option for me!!

Thanks

I use my epilator for my 'intimate area'. That's actually the reason I bought it. Just make sure the hair is short, if it's too long it'll hurt like hell. And be careful :)

I used to get a Brazilian wax every 6 weeks, which might suit you if you don't fancy the epilator. It was great too but the epilator saves money.
  • I know you would like to move away from the creams but we use 'Magic Cream' (me and the OH) without any problems (and I've got 51yr old sensitive skin), it comes in different strengths, you can get it on Ebay cheaply. I agree, no gurt hairy 'joy of sex' bits in this house, next we'd be wearing cheesecloth and listening to Demis Rousos!!

Just to add, I've got plenty enough hair... on my head!

  • I save mine with a normal razor, don't like pain and too lazy to sit around for 10 mins waiting for cream plus I'm REALLY sensitive so have to be careful with what I use!!

If you must remove the hair I would think waxing would be the least bad option.

Having said that I don't quite know how that works for underneath  It's ok for where the skin in fairly taut, like on the legs, but not for softer or looser skin/tissue.

    • Shaving will give you a prickly hedgehog within a day or two, and a shaving rash.. oh how attractive
    • Nair/Veet might be ok but not usually intended for sensitive or perianal areas. Some hilarious amazon reviews if you take a look. I think someone had to resort to sitting in a tub of ice-cream to soothe the pain.
    • And definitely not an epilator, ouch!

But seriously, the number of people who end up at the doctors or in A&E due to infected ingrown hairs after shaving/waxing, or painful accidents involving hair removal/vajazzles. Is it worth it, just to emulate the !!!!!! star look.

  • Why does preferring to be hair free have to be emulating the !!!!!! star look or anything else? I'm a chubby 51 year old with 3 kids and a conventional job. I just don't like any hairy bits, end of.

Personally I'm not sure I'd trust it to be safe, but I might be worrying unnecessarily. I just don't like the thought of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Radio Frequency (RF) energies in close proximity to the body. Who knows what that's going to do to you long-term.

Oh dear. What a shame you can't see beyond that.

I've got the Philips Ipl hair remover, used repeatedly it slows hair down in intimate areas, but it's not stopping it.

Personally I don't like shaving for that area, & waxing is a pain too (literally!), it's expensive at about £30 a Hollywood. Plus you have to make appointments & visit somewhere.

I use the Ipl & Immac now & then to get it 100% fuzz free now & then.

It's without doubt the most problematic hair removal area on the body.

Yes I can imagine it's problematic to get rid of the hair completely in the genital area. Underam hair is no bother to remove, and you don't get ingrown hairs (though I did get a razor cut the other day :( )

If people think it's worth the bother of shaving their intimate parts (carefully!) every day, or going to all these lengths, then it's up to them what they do, of course, but it seems like making problems for yourself to me. The hair is meant to be there, after all, and personally I think it looks a bit weird hair-free, especially on men, but also on women.

    Each to their own :)
